you would think that Verdun having a large bike track that when this map was made they don't even list Verdun in the info area. They do show on the map (according to the maps legend) that there were 'roads' in Verdun area... broken red line = roads continous redline = good roads (or something like that.
here is the info listed with this map:

Here are some other photo's relative to cycling in and around Montreal over the years:
Two gals on bikes on the Mount (or vice-versa lol)
D.D.McTaggart was a Montreal Bike Racer around the same years as the Verdun park would have been around,so he most likely raced there I would guess.
This is an'Evolution of Bikes' by J.Antoine Pelletier
Montreal cycle race circa 1939
Cycle Race 1939 listed as College Laval
It seems Montreal really liked cycling, throughout the years.
Same year as previous photo 1939,but this race is clearly an organized street course race, ratherthan the oval flat track ,as seen in the other photos.
and. how's this Verdun Cycle Safety Course (I knew we could work Verdun in there,....that's the 'Connection'--lol
and here is the graduating class I guess
the Verdun Cycle Safety class of 1941
There you go , a small contribution to the cycling topic of days gone by in Montreal.

You can click on the Bicycle Map of Montreal bike routes 1897 , to make it large enough to read the routes & study the map:
I know I posted this map years ago, but the timing seemed good to post it again. Also I posted all the photos in the opening topic page ,until they(Multiply) enables the 'embed codes' for posting individual photos again, & not just slide shows or vids......That shouldn't be too long I'm told.
Cheers ! HF&RV..............................................-Les
You don't even see Verdun in this list ,yet clearly on the map there were suggested routes through Verdun, but no mention or indication of Verdun's Queens Park,.this map is from the right era ,if not dead-on,?

Something as large as a park that could accomodate 15,000 spectators, would certainly be large enough to warrant putting on a map ? 15,000 is a lot of people, I wonder if it was more like 1500 that would be more in line based on the grand stand photo we have seen indicating it's the Queens Park in Verdun.
This map is dated 2 years prior to the big race of 1899, & I suppose it could be built quickly for a special event.........but I wonder what happened to it ,afterwards....??? Cheers ! HF&RV -Les
What they say in the video the track would be Sold For Fire Wood......but the other buildings ???
Too bad the photos in this story didn't transfer over from the old site. I am sure I have them still around somehwere. Maybe I'll get energetic some day & repost them. Cheers ! LesF
