wow, I wish I'd seen these videos when I was a teen. I started smoking at 13 and even though it made me very sick I kept trying until I could tolerate them. Then from 68 right up until 95 I attempted unsuccessfully to quit. I was up to two packs a day and had very little oxygen to do anything physical. I finally quit in 96 and now have permanent bronchitis that is getting a little better as time goes by. We thought we were being grown up by smoking. My mother use to say to me" smoking is for adults". Bad thing to say to a teenager. Smac

I do remember hearing the same comment. My brother used to give us kids cigarettes & we thought that was real cool...........I can remember the first time inhaling,..'my friends' if you can call them that........hahahah had already tried inhaling,so now it was my turn as I wasn't there for the inaugural inhale lesson. I asked them 'How do I do it" and they told me just to inhale as deep as I could & hold it..............the Bas^$%s.....lol but in my want to cough & choke ,I simply refused to let these guys see me not be able to handle it......it took a few minutes of really trying not to cough,& I did pretty good because the ringleader our friend Art ,said wow that was pretty good cause apparently they all had coughing and choking fits when they tried it. I remember it like it was: Ok 50 years ago.lol
...............Ken & Danny B if your reading this, must remember that period in time ,we were standing on the steps of the old St Willibrord's school ( the door on Verdun Av..)
However I quit years later & have not ever felt the need to smoke again, oddly enough there are still times (rarely) that I catch a whif of a just lit smoke & it seems to smell good. mostly though I don't like the smell of smoke< & although I am not a Militant Non Smoker, I am glad that restaurants no longer allow this practice....................... Cheers !

I also remember a TV ad that the CBC aired a long time ago, it was in B&W, there was a kid standing in a bathroom sneaking a smoke from under the sink or something & was about to light it up,.........so far no voices are heard in the ad,......then a voice comes on as the kid lights the smoke & says "Remember your first cigarette" and that's it the kid lights the smoke & starts choking & coughing,.then the voice comes back on and says simply ? "Maybe your body was Trying to Tell You Something"
...............I have always remembered that ad, for it's simplicity .the message was clear .

I have looked for a copy of the ad on the CBC archives etc etc ,but cannot seem to locate it,if i do I will post here.I think it would be effective,The good news is that apparently the number of smokers in Canada is declining quite quickly,.......................... the "Times they are a Changing"---Bob Dylan

One of my sons has been smoking since he is 18 and is his 40s now. He stopped smoking a week ago and replaced the cigarette with one of those nicotine gadgets. We are all pulling for him. My other son Jean Guy also stopped about a month ago but I think he will succeed. I smoked cigarettes, cigars and the pipe but stopped smoking about 40 years ago. If you don't smoke, don't start, if you smoke, stop smoking as the ad says.

Just a few creative ads re: Don't Smoke............and one cartoon about the pot calling the kettle,I thought that one funny even though it's not an anti smoking ad.

It's good to quit at anytime, good luck to your sons,it will also show the kids a good example too, that it's never too late to stop.

I quit in 1997 and was up to three large packs a day (75). Based on todays costs I would be going through $ 210.00/week. Other than weight gain, feel terrific and will never go back. Strangely though, I still get the odd urge for a smoke, but that quickly passes. A fella asked me on Young Street the other day if I could spare a smoke. Told him, I couldn't afford to smoke. !!

Remember the old days "I'll quit when it gets to a buck a pack".....lol: Heard that more than once.
Oddly enough ,as you experienced on Yonge St, there seems to be a large numbe of street people who still smoke, How can they afford it.?
