Use this link to access the M's for archive newspapers, Many Montreal papers are listed here,I wonder if papers called the Montreal Guardian ,are really the 'Guardian' that we knew from Verdun, because at one time the banner across the top of the Guardian mentioned they also served the Point, Cote St Paul, Verdun etc etc
Maybe we get lucky and find a treasure trove of Montreal / Verdun history.....Cheers !!

Les,
My main source of information in writing my article on Queen's Park was "La Patrie", years 1898 to 1904. The quality of the printing was superior for the Montreal Gazette, however the La Patrie was superior with the illustrations and the Gazette had very few illustrations. There were no photos in the newspapers at the end of the 19th century but started to appear in 1902 and the quality was very bad. Just a few observations wich I am sharing.

Guy if & when I visit Montreal again , I would really like to visit the SHGV preferably when you are on duty, I could spend hours in the archives for sure. However visiting is back east is not on my radar this year (for now anyway) I wonder if they still have or are planning to have another evening at SHGV like they did several years ago, when people brought many of their old photo's for display ?
If so did you get to scan many of those? Cheers HF&RV

Hi Steve, I thought a few people would appreciate those links. I don't know why I didn't post them before, just figured everyone knew about them. I found a couple of great newspaper articles with photos of the old dam in Lasalle ,a while back & made some copies for Guy, I think he has them in one of his photo albums. Maybe he will post them here too. Cheers !! HF&RV

Les,
Let me know if and when you do come to Montreal so that we can set up your visit at the SHGV. It will be a pleasure to show you around. Kathryn Harvey founded Verdun Memories a couple of years ago and old Verdunties gathered at the Dawson Cultural Center to share their memories of Verdun and brought their old photos. We exchanged viisits with our society but unfortunately the project died down. You previously posted the site. It was a great aidea wich approached the french and english residents who grew up in Verdun in the 30s, 40s and 50s. Maybe the project wil be renewed, who knows ?.
