A few Verdun Parks and stuff
Just a couple of photos showing a few VerdunParks, and the Monument in it's original park ( Lasalle & Wellington,.that little triangular park) also Verdun Av with a parade for amristice day.......
This photo is listed as "Work starting on the Comfort Station / Music Bandstand,.However I doubt it is the Woodland Bandshell ,because the river looks to far away, you can click on the photo to inspect the photo more closely, There are swings in the background & a sandbox , & in the far back you can see what appears to be a Redtop, which I suppose could be the one in that Woodland (Cement Downs) Park clsoer to Melrose ? but where are the familiar baordwalk pillars & railings ? I know many photos in library's are often labeled with misinformation, but have a look at it, and see what you think. Cheers HF&RV
There a few pictures in this photo album posted by Susie for all of us, a few show the Monument in it's original park at Wellington & Lasalle Blvd too....Have a look (Thanks Again Susie, for sharing)
Cheers ,Have Fun & Remember Verdun PS: Don't Forget you can use the 'Full Screen' feature too, plus you can adjust the speed / timeframe that photos appear....
Anyone ever heard of this Social Club in Verdun ? The Willibrord Social Club ? address says 377 Willibrord Avenue,....that's not the StWillibrord Church ,because that address is 351..so what building was this Social Club in.? Cheers , HF&RV
Probably the church hall that was on the side north of the church. I attended a number of sports banquest there. Also was used for receptions of all purposes.
Is there a photo somewhere of the building on Verdun Ave between 3rd & 1st Ave. I remember a building with the words "Lest We Forget". I was taught from a very young age to always stop when passing there and acknowledge the fallen soldiers. Something that automatically continued every time I passed that building or any memorial monument etc....Diane
This is the building I think you mean Diane. It's the Verdun Legion Branch #4 at 4538 Verdun Avenue. between Willibrord & 1st avenue ,it looks strait across to the city hall......and it does have the "Lest We Forget" on the front of the building.
