Ps: This site is monitored but not actively posting on a regular basis. Mostly these are stories & some photos saved from a defunct site known as Verdun Connections which was on MSN Groups initially then on a social network called Multiply.
Here is a 1995 page from the Verdun Messager showing a couple of Verdunites that some members will no doubt recognize namely, George O'Reilly announcing his death on January 27th at age 65 and a photo of David Fennario the author of "Joe Beef". Click on the photo to enlarge it.

ReplyDeleteWe went to school with some of the O'Reilly family,at VCHS........... The fanily was certainly dedicated to the City of Verdun in terms of public service.

Here's a Montreal Gazette article about George O'Reilly senior, who had a long history of supporting Verdun,& as the article indicates he was instrumental in the hockey lives of Maurice Richard,Dollard StLaurent, & Butch Bouchard,.......

there are other Gazette stories of George Senior meeting the Queen (for something or other,..mind you 'that & a bus ticket ,will get you downtown).........hahahahah but I'm sure it was impressive at the time.............................................................HF&RV
