Ps: This site is monitored but not actively posting on a regular basis. Mostly these are stories & some photos saved from a defunct site known as Verdun Connections which was on MSN Groups initially then on a social network called Multiply.
The top photo shows the artist's illustration wich appeared in the Guardian issue of October 25th 1945 of the Bell building at the corner of Bannantyne between 1st and 2nd avenue. The lower photo I took Saturday from a different angle with view of 1st avenue and if you look closely you will notice the similarity.

I remember this building very well. My uncle, Jum Wilson was the manager of this site for many years. He lived on Valiquette and walked to this building every day - rain, shine or snow - until he retired.

Wasn't that building at 1st and Bannantyne across from the park? We use to try and figure out the door code to get a better look inside at all the step-by-step and crossbar relay racks.
Yes, the building is between 1st and 2nd ave. on Bannantyne ave.
