  31. Hi Arbutus,  I have two friends that are retired from the MUC Force one worked out of Westmount . His name is Ed Whitehurst I rented a house from him at one time and the other who taught Ed the ropes when he started out is Yvon Legault who I believe worked out of Westmount at one time and was stationed in LaSalle most of his career. Did you happen to know either of them. Danny

  33. Hi Arbutus, My wife was good friends with his wife Brenda. They worked together at the Royal Bank. After she died Ed asked if we wanted to rent his house in St.Hubert so we rented it from him for a couple of years. I believe Ed drives a school Bus here in LaSalle these days. Yvon is very good to my wife and I, he helps us out with things that I can no longer do and brings us spring water from his cottage when he can.  I haven't seen him in a while but he drops by when he isn't to busy with his contracting buisness. I'll say hi for you.  Danny

  34. It is a small world after all.  I remember all the Westmount guys from up north.  My father in law was a Westmount cop for 25yrs.  he died in 1971 only 50 yrs. old.  My husband knew John and the guys because he played softball with them in Westmount and later up north.  We live in the Laurentians, the last one's to leave La Belle Province.  We live near Morin Heights. St. Sauveur area.  My Brother Bill is a Firefighter in Vaughan near Toronto, he should retire but is hanging in for a couple more years.  I am the oldest, 61 this year and Bill is two years younger, my sister Lynn( Levis jeans) is 10 years younger.  Her memories of Verdun are very different than mine.  I am an old timer compared to her.  I attented a reunion at Dawson Boys Club awhile ago, it was great, over 200 people showed up.  One thing I remember is that no one was bragging about where and what they were doing now, everyone just talked about the good old days.  We were all from the same type of families.  Hard Working, Dads and Stay at home Moms.

  35. Hi Gary   It sure is a small world.  My father in law was a cop in Westmount for 25 yrs. he died at the age 0f 50 in 1971.  My husband knew all the westmount guys, he played softball with them in Westmount and later up North.  We live near Morin Heights, St. Sauveur area, moved up 30 yrs. ago.  I guess we are the last ones here in La Belle Province. still enjoy the patate frites and steamee.  Bill is a firefighter in Vaughan near Toronto, I am the oldest 61 this year, Bill is 2 yrs. younger and Lynn (levisjeans) is 10 yrs. younger, so our memories of Val David and Verdun are different.  I attended a great reunion at Dawson Boys Club a few years back, it was the first one and we had over 200 people show up and got together for two days.  The thing that impressed me most was that no one was bragging about what they did now everyone just talked about the good old days.  We were really all from the same type of families, middle class, with hard working Dads and stay at home Moms.

  36. Are you the same Judy Brown that lived on Rushbrooke Street in the mid 40's (gawd, we sound old, don't we? - but we're still young at heart!!!). You were very pretty with blonde curly hair and we used to play ball  - sevens-sies, six-sies, fives-sies, etc. against the brick wall on the corner of either River or May.  You had one of those balls that really bounced good and I was so envious.  When the train would go by on the overpass down at the end of Rushbrooke, we would run down and wave at the conductor.  Does that sound familiar to you at all?  Then again, maybe you're not the same Judy...just thought I'd give it a shot. Judy in NB

  37. Hi Judy in NB That is me, I lived at 3020 Rushbrooke St, and was always playing ball at the corner of May Av & Rushrbooke.  Don't know how they stood the pounding on the wall, when I think about it now.....remember the ball very well, not sure where I got it, but it was like a lacrosse ball...Remember skipping too. Do you remember Gisele Leduc, she too lived on Rushbrooke, just a couple of doors down from us.  Talked to her on Christmas day and her twin brother Gilles, they both live in Florida now...this site is so great, I love it. 39. Wow - small world, isn't it?  We lived at 3182 Rushbrooke at my maternal grandmother's place 'cause my dad was away in the Navy. Remember the church on the corner of River & Wellington that had the double row of piped fencing and we would spend hours hanging upside down off the fence and doing somersaults?  Who needed TV anyway?  I'm sorry - I don't remember Gisele at all.  I remember the girl next door - her name was Carol Cornwall. Remember the big D.I.L. field in front of us?  And the big Textile company behind it?  What did that stand for anyway?  Does anyone know? judy in NB

  66. Hi Maggie-I'm here but am wondering why people don't post their real names...I'm sure that if they did,I'd know quite a few of them-I graduated in 1971 and would love to get in touch with old friends but it's impossible unless their names are  visible! I'm sure that a LOT of us agree! Thanks... I'm Cathy Wilkins.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I agree Cathy, all new members must supply their names to gain membership. We thought we would try this and see if it didn't frighten members away. We've added about 50 members since introducing this in the fall so it will stay. We strongly recommend that old members update their profiles to include their first and last names. The "sml" list was also created because updating profiles is difficult (thanks MSN) most of the time and some people feel that they are not safe to share that much info in their MSN profiles. The sml is only accessable to members. Quite a few members have sent information to be added to the sml list. When I get back to my own PC, I will work on that.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Magpie, before withdrawing from Verdun Connections, please try changing your membership settings so that new messages are not sent to your email account. You can find step by step instructions by going to "stop the emails!" at the left hand side of the page. It's the last thing on the list before "member tools".
