  4. just reposting this in the right thread for Pam so it isn't missed: From: country girl Sent: 5/1/2006 4:29 PM Hi Margo, I just read your post about Orangeville (which seemed to come out of nowhere on the Verdun Dentists topic). I live in Brampton and would love to get together with  fellow ex-Verdunites.  Let me know when and where and I'll try to make it.  As a doula, however, a birth may prevent me from getting there - LOL.   Pam (Hyde)

  9. Hi Smoked Meat Aficiandos:   I called Angel's and they don't take reservations. I figured at 11:30 the breakfast crowd will have left and the lunch crowd would not have arrived. It sounds good in principle. Karen and I will be there at 11:15 and will try to corral a table for ten. The restaurent generally consist of booths for four. If someone else could meet us at 11:15 we could at least secure two booths (at the least) and that would take care of 8 of the potential 9 attendees. We'll try to get seats by the front window, if we can't secure the limited tables. I'll be wearing my navy blue Verdun Memorial golf jacket.   Pam, I hope you have now logged onto the correct subject and can follow the flow, including directions. Willie and Murph, are you coming alone?   Look forward to seeing everyone.   Gord

  12. Hi Gord,   I can't quite remember, but aren't there tables in the middle section of the restaurant?   We will try to get there for 11:15am.   See you,   Carole

  13. Hi Rainy_Day_Man,.........If that's where you live ,.you'll be able to walk to Angels Diner,.....I was looking for pictures of the Diner,....but the only thing they had on it was the map,.....on that restaurant page,.......Sounds like you guys will have some fun,.meeting some a group from Verdun,.....a little early in the morning though to have a Smoked Meat Sandwich ?  Although by the time you order if your meeting at 11:30am ,......it will be lunchtime,....... That is one of the things I miss about living on the mainland,......You have access to so much stuff,.all around you any direction,......Have Fun a your breakfast 'meat'...........hahahahaha                                  HF&RV

  14. Actually   RDM ,..inlooking at that map,....the one I clicked on & saved had a little balloon type indicator showing exactly where Angels Diner is,.....but it looks like 3 separate maps now,....I didn't copy it that way,.....the whole thing came off a 'Restaurant Guide '    and an available map for each restaurant in & around Orangeville........Here's the weblink: http://www.restaurantica.com/on/orangeville/         click on Angels Diner,.and it shows one little square map,........after you meet everyone and have your meal ,.....start screaming at the top of your lungs,..."My Names Crime & Crime doesn't Pay"....................see how that works for ya,...............hahahahaha                         HF&RV

  17. How will the Verdun Connections people recognize each other at Angel's? Post something here that will help you find each other.

  18. Hey Gord,   Yup I will be alone. I will be wearing a White (almost) Verdun hat from the Strathcona Hotel Montreal Meet & Greets.   I will be on crutches, so ya shouldn't miss me. Looking forward to seeing everyone AND of course have some SMOKED MEAT   Willie

  20. Carole and I plan to arrive at 11:15 and collar some tables for an intimate group of 10 who have never met each other. The plan is that we will get some tables (rather than booths) in the front (being facing Broadway). Suggest that those who arrive ask for the Verdun contingent, otherwise look for a guy in a Verdun Golf jacket and a guy with a Verdun hat and crutches. Failing that, I would suggest that you walk down the isle singing: "Verdun once - Verdun twice......." I'll advise the hostess that we are expecting other guests and presumably we shall meet up. Shane:  You never responded - we were hoping to retire to your place for post smoked meat cocktails.   Gord

  21. This gathering sounds great, I am envious that I am a few hundred miles away in Deux Montagnes, and can't make it........BUT, if there is another event later this summer, I will try to make it, as I will be alone for most of the summer....p.s. Jessie would love to come also, as she lovvvvvvvves food........I read the notice about the Lobsterfest on June 17th, but this is my younger daughter's birthday.........m.p.u.

  22. Lunch was a great success. The fare and comraderie was excellent. Talk seemed to revolve around Verdun for some reason. I did take photos (including the obligatory shot of a smoked meat sandwich) and will post them as soon as my son-in-law shows me how.   Look forward to getting together again some time - hopefully Pam and Shane (and others) can make the next one.    Gord Gibbons

  24. Hi Gord, I couldn't find the Appleby's thread, so figured this was the next best thing to get to the group again.   I was thinking that it might be nice to get together again for a luch of "something or other". What do you think?   Maggie is posting the picture that we took in January. I am not sure if we can see it, you and Carole took off your glasses to remove the glare. Of course I should have wore a hat to reduce glare as well.   I hope you summer is going well and you caught a few "Big Ones". Hope to hear from the Angel's Gang and fix a date to get together and chat again.

  28. Willie:   The Appleby's thread was Carole's under a heading of "Meeting Verdunites". I think it an excellent idea to get together again. The last time we met we talked about meeting in Erin. Actually we currently have our house on the market as Karen and I have bought a bungalow in Rosedale (Sandalwood and Dixie) in preparation for retirement. It might be an idea that we host a Bar-B-Que. Regardless, let's see what interest we can develop for another get together. Carole is regular contributor and hopefully will respond. We have not heard from Margo recently, excepting one contribution. I expect that she is still convalescing. I do have her e-mail address, so we can certainly personally invite her and pick her up in appropriate. Others are welcome to join us.   Gord Gibbons Brampton

  29. Hallo everyone.  Getting together one way or another sounds good to me. BBQ, sure, I can bring salad. Anywhere or anything else would be fine too.   A couple of weeks ago I was at Costco and they had Dunn's smoked meat, prepared sandwiches in pouches, I think is what the package read. They weren't frozen, but about six were in the package for approx. $14.00-$15.00. I didn't buy any because  - too many to eat and I wasn't sure if it would be a good idea to freeze them. If anyone had those, let me know. Dying to know what they're like.   Anyhoo, having a greet & meet would be great.   Carole

  31. Hey Carole
We've had them twice now (from Costco) & are happy with their quality.

  32. Re; Dunn's smoked meat from Costco here in Winnipeg.. We've bought 2 boxes to keep in the freezer.  Quality is inconsistant.  Sometimes great other times stringy or fatty.. But still pretty good.   Wayne

  33. Well then, next time I'm in Costco I will pick up a package of the smoked meat. I haven't had smoked meat in ages & ages.   Thanks, good to have this "Connection"     Carole

  36. I don't know about anyone else, but a yummy smoked meat sandwich sounds pretty good to me.  The last time we met at Angel's was the last time I had smoked meat, period. It's long over due!  But..  anything goes as well.       Take care all,  good to see your doing well Margo.     Carole
