Les_F,
Thanks for posting part of Frank Hanley's memoirs. I met Frank when working at Tony The Taylor in the beginning of the 50s as he was a customer. He was quite a caracter and reflected the politics of the era. He was a friend of Tony Guinta who had a booky in the basement of the building which was in Frank Hanley's district at the corner of Notre Dame and McGill. There was a club also on ground level and we would get the artists as customers. Once the base player of the band gave us a counterfit $20. bill but our manager noticed it and had him replace it. Wally Aspell was a regular at the club. I must try and remember the name of that club.

ReplyDeleteLes_F, Thats the one alright. What incredible resources you have. Tony The Taylor was on the second floor just above the Club. I worked there from 1950 to 1956 where we dressed many of the Canadiens hockey club players as well as players from other of the 6 National Hockey league teams. Wally Aspel was also a piano player and died a few years ago. I did not know that Frank Hanley was a boxer as well as a jockey, he had a fascinating life and I must get hold of the book you mentioned. I may share other facts from that period as they come to mind. Thanks again for all the information. Guy
