  1. Hey a little good news is always welcome but never publicized . People complain about the construction on the roads today but for the last 30 years they complained about the lack of construction on the roads in and around Montreal. You can’t have it both ways…………………………go figure……….

  3. Did I hear correctly in the video ,it has been just over 40 years, since the govt' announced this project ? Also I see the news anchors are wearing poppies, this must be older foortage ? I guess good news is hard to find.............lol Cheers ! HF&RV

ps: It seems to be the norm everywhere, we have had an ongoing debate on whether to have lightrail transit from our western communtities into Victoria itself,.....I rmemeber hearing the suggestions in the 70's ,,,,,reason it's never been done, too expensive,& the ridership wouldn't warrant it.....Had they done it back then ,I would guess it would have been a hell of a lot cheaper.
One thing they mention in the Montreal video,is that the new section of highway is made of concrete, that seems odd ,as you would think with the many potholes sure to come with the weather & the expected high traffic count, ashphalt would seem to be easier to use to smooth out potholes ? ?? 4. It does look like escaping the city or province would certainl;y be quicker along this hwy 30.....it looks like an almost direct flow to the border ( Ont border),with a bridge at beauhornois,.....I remember that canal,it was quite something at one time. HF&RV

  5. The reason it did get build is the indian crisis a few years ago. They had to bypass the reserve to go to Montreal otherwise it would still be in debate. One of the reason is to be able to bypass Montreal. One part of it will be a toll highway of course where the bridge is. As for cement roadway they are doing that all around here it does not have pot holes but here in La Prairie the sound is terrible. before they build the 132 they had meetings with the people and they said they wanted to have our input. Of couse they did what they wanted anyways and nothing of our input was included.

  6. Ahh that makes perfect sense, cut the problem right out of the equation.
As for the hwy. being concrete, the noise thing does make sense ,as tires do make a different sound on cement as opposed to ashphalt.
Thanks for enlightment Robert ( jumper) ,.........Cheers ! HF&RV - Les

  8. I guess I did not make my point clear ….. For 30 years while the PQ were in power there was NO construction NO road repair the infrastructure was neglected and people complained . Today in the City of Montreal and surrounding areas there IS road repair everywhere thanks to the change of government and people complain about being inconvenienced by the road repair . I am not talking about the quality of the material or the quality of the work as I am NOT A CIVIL engineer and I would not know the difference .....Pauline

  9. I wonder where the tax money went,
I do think your point was clear, however regardless of who is or was in power, the taxpayer do retain the right to suggest new routes they need or ideas they have that may be of benefit to all. They also always have the right to voice their opinion be a critique or an accolade for a job well done or not done.(imho) Cheers ! 10. If I knew the answer to your question I would be walking around Easy Street living in a $ Million plus mansion next door to a nice big bank laughing my head off.

  11. I certainly agree with you that tax payers have every right to suggest Anything (within reason of course)that would benefit their community.
As for myself I would not risk the chance of looking ignorant to critique something that I have no knowledge off . As for why they make roads out of one material or another I will put my faith in the hands of the experts.(imho)

  12. I would tend to want to agree with this logic.........but history (recent & older) tends to show that the faith is put in the hands of who pays the most graft. That company gets the job,not neccessarily the best engineers, but the best 'paid off' engineers.
That's why some buildings have slabs of concrete that like to come down & visit people on the terrace below........or some overpasses like to just giveway onto the hwy below (ala Papineau or PieIX was it) or the less than 50 year old Turcot & surrounding hwy's or the far less aged Ville Marie Expressway which chose to drop in on the hwy below, due to poor construction from 'expert engineers' & workman...never mind a chunk of the Big Owe,falling off the stadium or it's parking lot collapsing............all this from well paid ,smart engineers,...when the Victoria Bridge built 135 years ago doesn;t seem to have too much problems and it stands against a swift current 24/7 365 days / yr. subject to all the same weather conditions,.and much of Montreal's buildings which were built well ver 100 years ago still seem to 'weather the storms,as it were' those were built by concientous (sp?) workers who were not overly paid .but must have had pride in their work. not in their bank accounts......I would hope to see the greed factor taken out of building things, but when things are paid for by other peoples money then I have to worry that the unscrupulous types take over & screw the public, while they have yachts moored in warmer climates,to host city & govt officials on while they feed at the public trough.
Unfortunately , I would like to just 'trust' in people (experts) doing the right thing,.sadly I don't think we can.... However it does make for good posts.........lol

  13. Well I’m not ready to pop valium and live my life in a bubble. I’ll take my chances and live my life on the wild side .LOL There is good and bad in EVERY profession (teacher’s doctor’s architect’s politicians’ engineers ) and we still benefit from their knowledge.

  17. Anarchy is highly Underated: It actually has worked many times in history, but Apathy has since taken over, because most people don't have the stomach for change............cheers ! HF&RV - Les

"Many forms of Government have been tried and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time"-------------Sir Winston Churchill.
