Verdun Floods Early 1900s

Floods are in the news these days with the Red River overflowing both in Canada and the U.S. but how many Verdunites are aware that floods were a common occurrance in the beginning of the 20th century as demonstrates these La Presse photos dated the 1st of April 1913. Luckily the problem was eventually solved by making a dike along the river wich became the Boardwalk.

    Tell me Guy was the police station there on Lasalle Blvd. when the floods were there?

    Guy, where was the huge flood in a town in Northern Quebec several years ago? I remember seeing news footage and it was so swift and devastating for the town, with homes falling into the quick moving river which looked absolutely wild...Diane.

    Yes I remmber that flood in the Chicoutimi area I believe and 1 small house right in the middle stood up to the rushing water and the photo made its way around the world.

    It is so hard to imagine that Verdun was ever a flood zone.Seems impossible but thanks to the engineers at that time they totally solved the problem.In my mind the boardwalk was always there.Can't imagine Verdun without the boardwalk
