Pat Daly, VCH 1962

Hi all,
Just heard about this site and it looks like fun.  I graduated VCH in 1962 and hung out at Dawson's during high school when Gordie Martineau was our dance DJ.  Grew up on Manning Avenue with Joyce McCallum, Margaret Ann Moore and Vivian Mallin - still friends since we were 6.  I've lived in B.C. for 35 years, married with 1 son and 4 step children.  My husband and I are both retired.

I remember a lot of the things people have mentioned in their postings but haven't noticed any mention of Frankie's.  When we were in grades 8 to 10 we used to stop there (Bannantyne and Woodland) on the way home from St. Willi's for fries with gravy and a coke.  No calorie counting in those days!  VCH opened for our last year of high school but before that it was that long walk from Willibrord home to Manning, lugging 15 pounds of books in our arms.  We'd save our bus money to spend at Frankie's.  Last time I was by there it was changed to a hardware store (I think).  Doesn't matter though, I still remember it as Frankie's.

  1. Hi Pat, welcome to VC. I graduated VCH in 72 and went to Frankies after school for the FFand gravy and a coke. I can't understand why they put up with us there, they didn't make any money off school kids for sure. It was always the same waitress/owner there for yrs......a little french lady, can't remember her name but she always seemed pissed off. Can you blame her? Wendy

  3. Hi Carolyn,  Nice to hear from you.  No, I don't have any pics from high school except for our group grad picture.  You're right about my grandma - she was a hairdresser in her day.  I still keep in touch with Linda Muncey, now Lambert, plus the 3 Manning Ave. "girls" from my original post.  Doesn't matter how much time passes between face to face visits, we still settle in fast and are totally comfortable talking within a few minutes.  Pretty neat having friends from your childhood, isn't it?   Have a great Christmas and don't forget the words to this song (and sing it in alto like we were taught) - forgive the spelling please, I haven't been around much French language for a long time.....   "Il est nee le divine enfant, jouer aux bois resone musette, Il est nee the divine enfant, chansons tous son avenement"   Pat

  10. Hi Gary, Probably the same one you knew.  I don't recall her street but it was definitely around there.  If the Linda you knew had 3 younger sisters, that was the same one.    Pat

  12. Pat, that's correct. Do you know where she lives today and if there might be a gathering of that group in the near future? I am in Montreal... and the principal cities in Canada fairly often. It would be great fun to have a reunion. Do you know how I can communicate with Linda? Please pass on my regards and tell her I have been able to contact Ronnie H. a few years ago... part of our little group. Some of the others were the Darlington's, Gibson's and Menard's.

  18. Pat,

    That would be great... thanks!
My name is O'Neill and I lived at 840 2nd avenue directly opposite Linda. After I left Verdun we moved to NDG. After living across Canada, in Europe and now the United States. I quite often I think about Verdun and the Laurentian Mountains. We had a house on Lake Breton between Morin Heights and Christiville. Linda used to go to Morin Heights. It appears the Lambert's are living in a vacation or recreational area. I have a client in Huntsville which I beleive is fairly close to their area. My e-mail address is ipc3@mac.com
    Appreciate your efforts.

  19. Hi Pat was just reading your post about hanging out at dawsons with Gordie Martineau as your dance DJ.  We have a Gord Martineau in Toronto.  He is a news anchor for the 6pm news on CityTV, one of the major TV stations in Toronto.  He was born and raised in Montreal so sounds like the same person.  Here is the link to his page on the CityTV site.  There is a pic of him, if he has not changed much since you knew him then you should be able to tell.   http://www.citytv.com/toronto/personalities_GordMartineau.aspx

  20. Hi Joan, .....same Gord Martineau.  I've seen him on tv when I've been visiting Mississauga.  Strange to see someone you knew as a kid all grown up and doing well on tv.  And he doesn't look very different from high school days.  Lucky guy - good genes?  Was your mum in any other St. Thomas More classes?  I think I've got some grade school pictures if you don't have them.  Wish I could say I remember your mum, but I don't.  Of course, it's been (gulp) 50+ years so I hope you'll excuse me.    Pat
