Book: Verdun 125 Years of History 1875-2000 in English

Bob Bowles,
The book: Verdun 125 Years of History 1875-2000 is available in English as I found a copy in our library yesterday. However , it may be difficulty to find outside the Montreal general area but you might find it at your local libray in Calgary, if they dont have it, they may able able to order for you. I was going through it yesterday and it is full of interesting photos and facts about Verdun. Enclosed is the cover.

  1. I would like to add that this book is by Denis Gravel, a well known local historian who is a member of our society (SHGV) and we are also working together on the Old 1710 House on LaSalle Boulevard called Maison Nivard-De-Saint Dizier where there are archealogical diggings going on and wich we hope wiil eventually become a Museum project, the only museum wich Verdun could have. 2. Bonjour, Guy,   I'm interested in the book Verdun, 125 Years of History, 1875–200.  The LaSalle library has it, but only in French.    Can you tell me where I can buy an English copy, please, and an idea of the approximate cost.   Merci bien,   Jack

  18. the lad:   I Remember getting off the bus from school at the corner of Church & Wellington,.and right on the corner (SW) was a sort of pharmacy /store, then heading towards Galt,.just in from the corner was a little store called ' the Lucky Spot' ( I had to pick up my oldman's Montreal Star,.the store had one of those old 'Star Weekly' signs outside,........  could this hae been the store your talking about,.cause they did have magazines ,.& stuff, but it was more just a little store,.but i think closer to Galt was a 'Card Store ' or something ,.then the Biscuit Store ( always smelled like those Maple Leaf Cookies).....but I guess the store your talking about is the same one my friends wife found the Verdun Calendar in??  but it's been quite a while since I even thought of that area, that I'm probably just forgeting the place,. I know that when the Bus stopped at Church Av,.if you got off the back door of the bus,.you could almost walk in the the little newspaper store,...& the front door would bring you into that Store on the Corner..... all these ,were across from the Big Church,...........If I could see a picture of that block from the Church side of the street,.I 'd probably get the old "Oh Yea. that place"..........hahahahahaha           Let us know what you find out.                                                               HF&RV

  20. Les   Just down from the convience store going towards Galt. Think there is a resto just after the place... The bank is still on the corner.. I called the bookstore before..Phillip who works there told me he has tried to get the book in English for a long time..Told me it is the city who puts it out..they are hard to get hold of...told me send him e-mail and he will let me know when he gets them.Told him sure he would sell a few...   Have not heard Star Weekly in years..used to deliver the Star right down to May Street and back along Wellington.Rushbrooke, all around there.Back to Hickson and Verdun Ave, Not bad considering started route at St.Joesph near the Acky Water Works..   Thanks for the prompt Lad

  22. Ya I forgot about the restaurant ,.but vaguely recall it now,.(could be power of suggestion).,hahahaha  the Ortuso family lived upstairs ,sort of a hidden 2nd floor gallery,.(one of those 'good galleries' for playing hockey......hahahah  Wider than most,.........  also just past the bank was a very small 'alleyway' that lead to almost the back yard of a friend of mine's backyard,.who lived on Galt just immediately passed the bank ,.his house looked over towards the City & District Bank ....almost exactly inline with the French school & a little lane that separated the School from the bank... Wayne Howard his name was,......man that goes back to being just a kid,..... YIKES...................hahahahahha                Let us know when your buddy calls you,.........  Thanks                                                            HF&RV

  34. Hi Guy A little bit late on my part but is the book on the history of Verdun still available?  I would love to buy it so please let me know.  Visited my old Crawford Park a few weeks ago.  Wonderful memories of my childhood there.  The old house still looks grand.  The place where you grew up remains in your heart forever.  Los Angeles is far away but Verdun and Crawford Park are dear to my heart.  Mirja
