Mostly these are stories & some photos saved from a defunct site known as Verdun Connections which was on MSN Groups initially then on a social network called Multiply.
Carolyn, Lorraine Giblin lives in California or somewhere like that. Her daughter Jan and my 33 yr old cousin Cynthia are best friends and have been since childhood. My daughter,Lorraines daughter and my cousins daughter all played together when they were little. The last time I saw Lorraine was back in the late 60's. We attended a wedding of a friend we grew up with, Lynn Lean. After that I lost contact. Carol & her younger sister Judy lived downstairs from me. Their parents owned the building we lived in. I lived at 877 Valiquette & Carol & Judy lived at 875. My name then was Judy Ross. I'm sorry, but I don't remember you. We may have met, but probably so long ago, I have forgotten. I hope you had luck in finding these people from our past. Judy

ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn; the name Diane Pigeon is so familiar to me, but for the life of me, I can't put a face to the name. I remember that drug store. I broke my arm roller skating in front of it. Some people waiting for the bus (the 108) LOL brought me into the pharmacy so they could call my mother. A friend of mine, who I grew up with & we're still friends after all these years (Brenda Kenny Burdo, told me they knocked down the drug store, there's a house there now. Oh well, I guess that's progress. Judy
ReplyDeletejudy i remember lynn, they lived around corner on bann. upstairs,across from me,a lot younger than i. i am sharon giblins age, diane went out with johnny renahan,her mom and john whalens mom ,jean, were inseparable. i vaguly remember you now, did you remember that very poor family that lived on corner of valiquette and bannantyne, fowlers. carolyn
ReplyDeleteI don't remember the Fowlers, but do you remember the Gibbs family? They lived beside the drug store on Bannantyne & had a lot of kids: Lynn, Wendy & Heather to name a few. Lynn Lean had short black very curly hair. I on the other hand had long very red hair. I was the same age as Lorraine Giblin & Lynn Lean. I moved to Valiquette St. in 1955 on my 6th birthday. Boy it's great talking to someone who remembers the old street. Take care, Judy
ReplyDeletejudy, you got the addresses mixed up, the pigeons lived at 875 upstairs next to lachapelles, turquoise fiber awning, as for the gibbs, i think everyone knew of them, since they were such a large family, brian wilson and his bro jimmy lived above pharmacy,joan mc derment went out with jimmy. i think i am same age as carole lachapelle, judy youngest.yes it was great times, and fond memories, a lot of the gang from vch are on here and on classmates ,com i grad 1962 vch. carolyn bennett
ReplyDeleteGee Carolyn; My address was 877 Valiquette which us upstairs, I still have papers from that time. The Lachapelles owned the building & lived downstairs at 875. I was the fifth house on the left hand side from Bannantyne St. There was a very large maple leaf tree right in front of our house. In the summer my mother always put a green awning around the balcony for privacy. Judy
ReplyDeleteif you lived right over lachapelles then diane lived in doorway to your left upstairs not toward bann .the other way, her brother was carl, so shees got her address wrong i would say 873, tall ,dark hair,short ,thats diane. her mom had blonde hair, a very elegant lady, tall thin.we were both in beauty pagent at point st charles boys and girls club along with lois adler. ReplyDeleteJudy that info comes out the Lovell's Montreal Street Directories which can be accessed on the Quebec National Archives web site and document Montreal streets and addreeses and who lived at those addresses from 1842 to 1999. I don't recall the Kenny family - we moved from Valiquette in 1962 to Moffat.

ReplyDeleteThe Lad, I didn't know you worked with Bill Kenny. I lived next door to him, circa 1975. If I remember correctly, I was at 1057 and he was at 1055 Valiquette. They had a couple of kids. The som was Kim Kenny, I think. Sorry to hear the news about Bill and his wife.

ReplyDeleteLaurie Worked with him at Express in Lachine.This was right before I went downtown to CNX Investigator's office. Met a few off the wall guys there my first time if YOU know what I mean...or was that me?? Sure you know some of the guys in Lachine too.Positive of it ...one of them Gerry G. funny guy....I do remember the time at Turcot when you told me who your neighbors were.. Hi Les; yes Kim Kenny did go to VCHS. He was the middle child. The oldest & my best friend was Brenda, then Kim & then Bobby.
