Bo Diddley

Bo Diddley suffered a stroke in Western Iowa and has been admitted to The Creighton University Medical Center's Intensive Care Unit. The stroke has affected the left side of Bo's brain, impairing his speech and his speech recognition. Many of us remember Bo from the days when he used to perform at The Esquire Show Bar. Bo was the best. This is so sad. Prayers for Bo.

  1. Nobody could get the Esquire rocking like Bo Diddley.  Frank Motly and the Motly Crew came in a close second.

  2. You are so right!!!  Bo was definitely #1 and Frank Motley would be a good #2. Wasn't it Frank and his group that played "Leapfrog" and the sax had the lead? That's so sad about Bo.....I was listening to him just the other night. Good memories of the Esquire!!!   Thanks. judy in NB

  3. Newfydog, What a great memory. Fraank Motley & the Motley Crew played more
times at the Esquire, than any other group, period. Frank used to play dual
trumpet, & his sax man was a good-looking guy, whom everyone loved. Also
Jackie Shane, who was , I suppose trying to be a "Woman"? He was the first
Man I ever saw dressed like a "Woman" in Ladies clothes. Aw, those were the
    days!!

  4. Thank you thank you thank you, Wayne!!!  Been trying for the last three years to remember Frank's last name.  I remember his sax player asked me to dance one night toward closing.  I remember the strong smell of old wine. Also remember seeing the great Jack McDuff at the Esquire (late '50s) before he became Brother Jack McDuff.  He and his wife both sported silver hair!  Montreal sure was rich in its music scene. Then I discovered jazz at the Vieux Moulin. The Stablemates. Yeah. Chet Christopher on alto had a sound like Bird's.  Bob Rudd on bass.  So many of these guys now gone to the big band in the sky. 16. Sandy, I need a couple of scoops of that great Upstate New York Perry's ice cream. Perry's is the official ice cream of The Buffalo Sabres though. I don't want to upset the many Ottawa Senators fans in VC. Then again, The Sabres are all playing golf today. The Buffalo season is over.
