Academy Awards

Big night tonight. 'The Departed' better win best picture. I bought the 2 disk DVD from Costco b/c I really wanted the special features which Netfix didn't provide. Watched the movie 3 times already.
Sometimes the academy feels sorry for a nominee such as John Wayne in 'True Grit', when it really should have gone to 'Midnight Cowboy's Dustin Hoffman or Jon Voight that year in my opinion -- I bought that movie a few years ago. Also another gift was to Paul Newman for the 'Color of Money' and missed 'Salvador's James Woods. Btw I like all of Newman's films especially 'The Verdict', which I also own.
I walked out of "dreamgirls'. Music was too loud for my tastes, but Eddy Murphy was incredible.

  2. Hi biking, yesterday was movie day in my household. Watched the Departed, excellent. Babal, depressing. Running with Scissors, didn't care for it,and the Illusionist, loved it.I recently saw Little Miss Sunshine which I enjoyed, so I've seen 3 that are up for best pic.Taking a quote from the Sun Sentinel down here in South Florida,"Oscar,Take Care of Marty" if Scorsese and The Departed Don't Come Up Big, You Don't Know Jack.I agree .

  4. Hi wendy, Jon Stewart hosted last year -- luke warm. Billy Crystal was entertaining no doubt. Ellen Degeneres  should do well. She's very likable.
Will the academy give the documentary award to Al Gore. I watched his film, 'An Inconvenient Truth', and wasn't really moved, although his intention was honorable, and only honorable if what the talking heads say will not occur. They say he'll announce a run for the democratic presidential ticket while accepting the golden statue.
His film doesn't measure up to other truly great documentaries from the past. If he gets it, it was purely political so says my sceptical mind. Standby for fun.

  6.  I watched the 79th Academy Award show tonight and personally I found it to be long and boring!   I don't know why I kept watching, I could have switched channels......   Did anyone else watch the entire show and what did you think of this years Oscar night?   Dianne

  8. Ellen was Ok-she's no Billy Crystal though...I was happy to see Pan's  win some awards...not too many surprises last night though! Some of the ladies gowns were fantastic-Helen Mirren looked great-but all of the guys had black tuxes with satin lapels...whoa...kinda dull and boring...maybe Prince should have been there with a purple suit on for a burst of color?

  9. Al Gore got his Oscar -- what a miracle for the underdog! Lets face it Verdunites, the fix was in on this one. Tonight I feel his heart was in the right place though, and hopefully America/Canada will do our part to save the planet from carbon emissions and terrorism.
    Yea! 'The Departed'.
I thought Jody Foster looked fantastic.

  10. Btw I managed to hang in there for the entire show by speed switching between the Oscars whenever it got tiresome, and a movie on cable, 'Patton' -- another best picture of years ago.

  12. I watch the Oscars to see who is wearing what...and to see if maybe the one film I saw all year wins! lol-I thought  Ellen did an OK job but Billy Crystal was the best host in my opinion-I like the segment which honours those who passed away in the last year as well-I had  a tear in my eyes for Peter Boyle and of course Jack Wild...The show was alright but not the same as it was in the 60's...and seeing Jack Nicholson bald old and fat made me afraid to look into the mirror and see  ME there! ha ha!
