Movies.

I took my girlfriend, Jean Atkinson (5th Ave) and her friend, to the
Savoy to see Elvis Presley in 'Love Me Tender'. They insisted on
sitting in the first row! Looking up!
I was immediately electrocuted into another dimension. These two 15
year olds, began screaming at the top of their lungs when Elvis
appeared on screen. This embarrassed 15 year old left the theater with
face on fire, and I might add, neither one of these darlings could care
less. Young love - ouch!

I may rent that movie just to see what I missed.

  1. Rented 'Cinderella Man'. Wow! Totally inspirational. I have enjoyed
every film Ron Howard has directed. A James Braddock is what
professional boxing needs now, a hero to admire. The great Italian
Rocky Marciano was the last in my opinion. Of course he was of my time.
I listened to the fights on the radio with my father on 2nd Ave.

'The 20th anniversary DVD of 'E.T.' should be in the mail tomorrow. I
haven't seen it since it first came out.

  2. Listened to the Ron Howard commentary of the 'Cinderella Man' DVD. The
movie was made in Toronto, and the Madison Square Garden fight scenes
were all filmed in the Maple Leave Garden, which apparently resemble
    the old M.S.G.

  3. Cinderella Man.
Being self sufficient vs being irresponsible. We should all take the
example of James J. Braddock the heavy weight champ in the 20s and 30s.
During the worst of the depression, he was forced to take welfare for
his wife and 3 kids because of injuries which prevented him from boxing
-- his profession. When he began to make his amazing come back, he
stood in line at the welfare office and returned every penny without
telling anyone including his faithful wife Mae. The story got out
anyway, and was front page stuff! Years later, he went on to beat the
dangerous Max Bear. He inspired a whole generation. Hard working family
man devoted to his wife and kids. Rare these days.

  5. James Dean February 8th, 2006 will mark what would have been James Dean's 75th Birthday. In honor of that day, the Fairmount Historical Museum plans to commemorate that date with the following: James Byron Dean, son of a dental technician and a farmer's daughter, Winton A. and Mildred Wilson Dean, was born February 8, 1931, in the "Seven Gables" apartment house at 4th and McClure Street in Marion, Indiana.

  8. Kurt Russell has been a world-renowned film star for more than three decades. As a child, he starred in Disney classics including "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes."
The robbery scene starts brilliantly with Kurt Russell using Elvis moves to disable the security system.       Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn Kurt Vogel Russell (born March 17, 1951 in Springfield, Massachusetts) is an American actor. He is the son of Louise Crain and Bing Russell, who was a character actor best known as Deputy Clem Foster on Bonanza. Steve
