Justice

Bob and Les_F. Yep. Bill Clinton pled guilty to lying to the grand jury and lost his license to practice law in Arkansas. Martha Stewart was found guilty of lying to a Federal Agent about something that wasn't even a crime. Got 5(?) months in jail, plus probabation. The Chief Financial Officer of KPMG(?) pled guilty to partcipating in a 1.3 ($1,300,000,000.00) billion dollar financial fraud. And I really feel sorry for this poor bugger. He got 3, yup, THREE months in jail, a $10,000.00 fine, and 3 years probabtion. Last but not least. We have a person who robbed THOUSAND of panties from coed dorms. He became a suspect in a murder of a girl in one of the dorms. His bail was set at $10,000,000.00. They  have since said he is no longer a suspect in that murder. They reduce his bail because they only have the panty charge. Good
deal. His bail is now only $4,000,000.00, YUP 4 million. Is this a wonderful system or what????? Winston

  2. My point is that our system is so screwed up. Doesn't matter who you are. There seems to be no uniformity at all. You steal a little and they put you in jail for life. You steal hundreds of millions and you get probation. If you go to trial at all. How about TYCO???? Enron is not done yet. They have already convicted some of them. Now the big guy will be going to trial next year. And that guy better go to jail. Winston

  5. Hi Bob,

Politics really do not differ on either side of the border, just bear in
mind that being a country with 10 times the population of Canada gives us the
right to have scandals 10 times as great!
Without turning this into a nasty debate of which there wouldn't be any
winners anyway, Clinton rode the wave of  economical stability and growth
therefore, he has the right to claim responsibility for it. Al Gore invented the
internet and he has repeatedly accepted that responsibility. Both
administrations were/are corrupt. As for the current one, see who are involved
with Haliburton companies, The Carlysle Group and the Skull & Bones
Fraternity of Yale. Take away those members of the administration and all you
    have left are the minorities.

fact that Clinton cannot practise law?? Isn't is amazing thatb teh republicans
went after him and his wife for years (can you say Whitewater) but now he is
reformed enough to head the effort to raise money for the hurricane relief.
You forgot teh mention Bush's buddies at Enron. And of course the Haliburton
scam was swept under the carpet. Only shows that they have the same south of

  6. Hi Winston,

I had an Enron style pension plan from Arthur D. Little in Cambridge
Massachusetts. We had a new President & a group of Sr Management come on
board and they felt that the best use for our pension money was to re-invest in
ADL. The trustees of the plan was ADL Inc., so there was no individual name to
be held accountable or responsible. As soon as the $$'s went in, they wrote
themselves BIG bonuses and retention payments to stay on through
the bankrupcy hearings. Although we protested the mismanagement of millions
& millions of employees pension money, the courts felt they were appropriate
and just. They lived locally in beautiful estates, but kept a
small apartment in Florida and listed it as their primary address. There is
much more protection for these types down south and they knew how to use every
loophole in the laws so they could not be touched. I have to say that
things have gotten much better and such a repeat would be much harder to do
    today thankfully!

  8. What about the Bre-x scandal. People got gold fever and lost their shirt. Even the provincial government lost $100 million dollars through the Caisse de Dépot which is our money. One of the founders is living the life of Riley in South America somewhere. The accountant named Walsh died of a heart attack. Nobody was convicted for this fraud. I know of one individual who had $40 million invested and lost everything. I wonder if someone will be jailed for the $70 million missing from the Norbourg Co.

Although I do have sentiments regarding certain politicians here in the
United States, I cannot let that statement slide by. Corruption can be found
anywhere there is an opportunity for personal gain. Sorry to shock you but even
Canada has had its share of corrupt politicians! There are a lot of sincere
people in politics with only the goal of helping others and making their country
a better place. Unfortunately, it is the small number of corrupt ones who garner
    the attention.

This is so true for alot of us. Thought I would share these I've turn

old ones from the National Enquirer. " I've been married and I've been

Arafat.. Encouraging the young men and women of Palestine to strap a

  34. As for the overall situation in the Middle East, I don't think we will ever
see peace there in our life time. In a culture that puts more emphasis on how
they die rather than how they lived their life, it is virtually impossible.

I was having a coffee a couple of weeks ago with a small group of friends.
    A Seikh, a Hindu, a couple of Christians(American, Canadian and British), a
Muslim, a Russian Jew, an Israeli and a former politician of the overthrown

  36. Bob you are so right. Killing is killing to this catholic, throw in the
death penalty while I'm at it. Are there no exceptions? I don't know.

The Palestinians could have had a thriving economy had the 'money' went
to enrich the Palestinians and not the family of Arafat. $2,000,000,000
US, could have built many schools (jobs), hospitals (jobs), roads
(jobs), public buildings of every sort (jobs), and of course businesses
    (jobs).

Us little people Bob have no clear idea of the truth, except with what
we view on T.V., but Palestine probably is the sacrificial lamb for the
entire Arab world. They want the Jews out dead or alive. The only thing
blocking the Arabs from complete control of the Middle East (oil) are
the 'effen' Jews and their nuclear weapons. That is why the Jews have
    these weapons.

If you think gas prices are high now, wait till the Arabs have their
way, and all the Israelis either move to the US, Canada and Western
Europe, or are destroyed by a weapon of mass destruction.

  40. It is very true that there are good and bad in every nationality in this world. After 9/11 there was a strong reaction against a certain stereotyped group. I had the good fortune to have worked with two young Pakistani gentlemen who had been living and working in NYC on September 11th, but with the resulting backlash and constant Police harassment, felt it necessary to come to Canada. They were more polite and easier to work with than some Montreal born employees. Bryan Ferry said it pretty good in his song--Walk a Mile in My Shoes--   If I could be you and you could be me for just one hour
If we could find a way to get inside each other's minds
If you could see you, through my eyes, instead of your ego
I believe you'd be, surprised to see, that you'd been blind

Walk a mile in my shoes
Walk a mile in my shoes
    And before you abuse
    Criticise and accuse
Walk a mile in my shoes

Now the whole world you see around you is just a reflection
And the law of Karma, says you reap, just what you sow
So unless you've, lived a life of total perfection
You'd better be careful of every stone that you should throw

And yet we spend the day throwing stones at one another
'Cause I don't think or wear my hair the same way you do
Well I may be common people but i'm your brother
And when you strike out and try to hurt me it's a-hurtin you

There are people on reservations and out in the ghettos
And brother, there but for the grace of God go you and I
If I only, had the wings, of a little angel
Don't you know I'd fly, to the top of the mountain, and then I'd cry                                                             ........mpu.........

Last Night I went over the entries under the 'Justice' heading ,and found that it sure meanders all over the map ( so to speak) with different viewpoints that often encompass opposing points of view by the same person,...eg: pro arab  then almost pro israeli.........I never saw anything that could be construed as a assault on Anyone,............I've almost interpeted some as to be contrary from that persons previous posts ( going back several entries)..........so I appreciate & would certainly encourage everyone to have their own point of view,......but I find that it is taking on an almost 'Challenging' tone ,....and I would think that some members would be hesitant to wade into a title that appears to be a confrontational one,........and I would think that we (VC members) collectively do not want to 'feel uncomfortable' with the direction of any one Topic..................this is a very 'Member Friendly' site....with Everyone Welcome to Jump in at anytime.........and We want it to continue that way,....So I would like to see the end of the present Israeli -Arab war........they couldn't settle it in a couple of thousand years,..........so I doubt it'll make much headway here...............as much as I like spirited debates,we cannot let it go on & risk scaring others from joining in.............besides I think a lot of members, who mostly read the posts everyday,...would tune out,....because the Verdun Connection site is meant more or less as a Social Gathering Place where we can Remember Verdun,& it's Yesteryears,.......and many ,many Topics, without it deteriorating into what sounds confrontational.............Thanks for Understanding........ from television. Insulting Bush is insulting every man or woman who
voted for him, and to the V.C. members who may be conservative

This has been the liberal political strategy for too long: Republican
presidents are dumb don't vote for them. Well he was elected twice so

Btw, Bush dumb? The man is the leader of the free world!

Censorship is at an all time low on this site,...,,,,,,,,if something starts to go in a direction where it can only lead to bashing of sorts,.then we reserve the right, to stop it in it's tracks.....everyone story has two sides,....I 'wiped out that stream' simply because it was early in the Topic,.with 5 entries,...and it seems it was not going to be very productive,......as for your 'allowing us' to have at 'er on some very much in the news topics ,that had many responses,........I want to Thank You for your Permission,........If you go back to day one of all the messages on the message boards you will see that nothing gets stopped ,there are many Topics ,with only 1 or 2 replies,....that means there was little or no interest,...but they were left on .......I have posted persoanlly 'thousands' of links, pictures,& topic suggestions,....not all of them met with a lot of interest,.some did ,......but the ones that were directly going to possibly hurt or alienate anyone on this site ........Yes were stopped quickly,....I like to think I have a reasoanble 'sense of fair play'........and I will continue to monitor what I can,....along with Sharon ,....and both of us do it to hel;p everyone here on this site,.............and we were asked to help manage by MaggieMck,....and if Maggie would like some extra help from you or anyone else I'm sure she will be happy to ask..........I've been quite happy to help over the years,.and I have fun doing it,finding new stuff is fun......and keeping the site free from plenty of things that plague & kill most sites,.....has been an ongoing effort by us all.......in order to have a site that is fun and entertaining to all...........   and being a man who appears to appreciate quotes, here's one for you (and the recent topics )       .......Me Thinks Thow Doth , Protest too Much......  William Shakespear,           hahahahahahaha    Now try to Have Fun & Remember Verdun

Les. I have never doubted your important contribution to the site,
The censored URL was of a published article from the 'New York Times'.
I never did express my own opinion one way or the other. The piece
concerned the Vatican's ongoing effort to stop the influx of gays into
the seminaries. There are millions of us catholics here and elsewhere,
so I assumed it would be of interest to some. If not, it would have
died on the vine as so many other topics do. If there are catholics
interested in this topic, I would suggest going the the N.Y. Times
site, or any major newspaper for that matter, and check it out for
    yourselves. It is todays news!

  67. Thank you Les for the URL. I think the unheard V.C. majority interested
in this topic, or N.Y. Times in general, will appreciate it. keep up
    the good work.
