The need for wires etc etc

Here is the spot in the article that addresses those concerns (sort of) but i would imagine that on limited routes with high ridership,it would be an obstacle that clould be dealt with.Perhaps making a vehicle free zone otherthan the trams ?

--Electric buses, while avoiding the need for overhead wires, require batteries manufactured in an unsustainable way, he noted. It would make more sense to adopt trolley buses that use electricity directly off the grid, El-Geneidy said.
Trolleys have auxiliary power units that use natural gas or diesel, allowing them to move around impediments such as collisions and stalled buses, he noted.
“Some people won’t like the way they look from an esthetic standpoint” because of the overhead wires, El-Geneidy said.
But any new trolley bus network should be about more than stringing up wires over roadways, he added. It should be part of an urban-renewal project that would revitalize streets. That means installing new lighting and street furniture, he said.
Les Fhttp://lesf.multiply.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6464100720604662734.post-39194228198045466652011-11-05T10:19:14.000-07:002011-11-05T10:19:14.000-07:00The downside of electric trolley busses is the ugl...The downside of electric trolley busses is the ugly wires and posts required to feed the electricity to the buses, not to mention the repair and maintenance of the system. Remember when the pole on the tramways would come off when turning a corner and the operator would have to come out the tram to reposition it.
I think a battery operated bus would be a better route to go and I beleive Vancouver has such a system using a Ballard battery (a Vancouver manufacturer). However I am aware that this system has its negative side such as cost and miliage limits.
GuyGuy Billardhttp://shgverdun.multiply.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6464100720604662734.post-19855850801004847652011-11-05T09:38:58.000-07:002011-11-05T09:38:58.000-07:00I may as well add this album too, the one with all...I may as well add this album too, the one with all the old bus transfers & metro transfers etc etc ,.Remember it was supposed to be good luck if you got one of those metro transfers with 7 arrows on them usually at least one arrow on either end would have been cut off ..there some useless trivia for you..lol

Cheers !
