The 27th of may event was not the official opening of the museum, it was part of the free bus tour visits to all Montreal museums which included the "Old Stone House". The official opening will be in september when all the landscaping will be completed.. Also, the latest count is that the whole project cost 2 million dollars.
One of my photos appeared in the printed version of the Verdun Messager: I interviewd the man in the french military costume and he told me that he was a 4th grade history school teacher in Trois Rivières and that this was a sideline for him and travels to various historical events throughout the province.
Guy

Guy Billardhttp://shgverdun.multiply.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6464100720604662734.post-82061336047446773882012-05-29T16:02:26.000-07:002012-05-29T16:02:26.000-07:00Ok Thanks Guy. - LesOk Thanks Guy. - LesLes Fhttp://lesf.multiply.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6464100720604662734.post-69758651415325496182012-05-29T15:48:11.000-07:002012-05-29T15:48:11.000-07:00Les,

One archeologist did come down from Quebec to examine the petroglyph which appears to be a celtic design but he was not able to identify the origins of the rock. I have it on the backburner and maybe something will turn up some day.
GuyGuy Billardhttp://shgverdun.multiply.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6464100720604662734.post-64158388593905518752012-05-29T08:11:15.000-07:002012-05-29T08:11:15.000-07:00Speaking of speculation, what ever happened to the ...Speaking of speculation, what ever happened to the old rock that your friend found ,? The one with the design on it, I remember people doodling those same designs on books & desks in school, Did it turn out to be very old, or with all the trucked in,land fill along the riverfront since the 70's & 80's,did it turn out to be just a carved/painted rock ?Les Fhttp://lesf.multiply.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6464100720604662734.post-42680897109434432962012-05-29T07:21:24.000-07:002012-05-29T07:21:24.000-07:00The "shack" in the background is for lig...The "shack" in the background is for light snacks. I agree it does look shabby and hopefully will be corrected as it is out of place for an expensive renovation project (one and a half million dollars). Of course, this includes archealogical research of the house and the grounds.
There was a fort in Verdun built in 1862 and possibly on the grounds of the museum. Decayed posts where found near the house which may have been from the fort but it is only speculations so far. Old maps show the fort in the general area but no official documents giving the exact area of the fort have been found so far.
GuyGuy Billardhttp://shgverdun.multiply.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6464100720604662734.post-58108749457771370472012-05-28T21:40:23.000-07:002012-05-28T21:40:23.000-07:00Not yet I guess but last summer it was tagged all ...Not yet I guess but last summer it was tagged all overrobert jomphehttp://jumper01.multiply.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6464100720604662734.post-17310558587666522692012-05-28T20:31:42.000-07:002012-05-28T20:31:42.000-07:00Have they already defaced this building ?
