Bannantyne School

The photo of the Bannantyne school on the home page brings back fond memories of my growing up in Verdun in the 30s, 40s and 50s. We lived just across the street at 857 Galt facing directly across the school on the left of the photo and we played in front of, on the door steps, in the yard, even inside the school as sometimes they would forget to lock one of the doors and you know when you are kids, and when opportunity knocks, we took advantage of the situation and played in the gymnasium. Bannantyne street is on the foreground of the photo. Thanks Les for posting it. Here is a photo of the building that I took a few of years ago from my album no. 7 that replaced the school

No problem ,there are a few features on that screen (slideshow) that allow you to watch it in 'full screen' or slow the speed right down with the slidebar,or pause it on any photo too..give it a try, failing that you can click on Guy's facebox/avatar & then you can go directly to his site and look through his photo albums,he has them all numbered so easy to find.......... The photo of the Bannantyne school which Jean-Marie has posted was on Gordon street and probably the original section of the school.

This 1913 map shows the original section of the Bannantyne school. Obviously, an addition was made on Gordon street and another section built on Galt street. I will try and find out when these 2 additions where built.

I have found this 1916 map showing the Galt street wing of the Bannantyne school wich contained the gymnasium. We now know the order in wich the 3 sections where built. The photo of the school on the home page clearly shows the three sections. I will now look for the map showing the 3 sections including the Gordon street wing.
