Sharon Prior Case Still Not Solved (today's Gazette Story update)

LONGUEUIL - More than 37 years after her body was discovered in a wooded area in Longueuil, it seems someone has taken an interest in finding out once and for all who killed 16-year-old Sharron Prior.Police in Longueuil issued a statement on Wednesday asking anyone with information about the cold case to be in touch with their investigators, explaining that an anonymous donor had recently offered a reward of up to $10,000 for any tips leading to the arrest and prosecution of a suspect. The reward, offered through Sun Youth, will be valid for the next six months.“Of course when we found out that there was an anonymous donor we felt it would be a good time to bring it out in the media again,” said Longueuil police Constable Mark David. “The last time the (Sharron Prior) case was publicized was a while back.”David said police may never know why someone suddenly decided to offer such a large reward in exchange for information in a case that is nearing its 40th anniversary.“Maybe it’s from somebody who knows the family,” he theorized. “People may have all kinds of reasons.”Investigators working on the case spent much of the day Tuesday at a mobile command unit set up on Wellington St. in Point St. Charles. The location was chosen because of its proximity to the restaurant when Sharron was supposed to meet a group of friends on the night of March 29, 1975. The teen never showed up.Her body was found a few days later, on April 1. A pathologist concluded that she had been raped, beaten repeatedly — especially in the face — and suffocated on her own blood. Police suspected that Sharron was still alive when she was dumped in the field where her body was eventually discovered.Over the last 37 years, police have interviewed “quite a few suspects”, said David, but investigators never had enough evidence to lay charges.Tuesday’s command unit was designed to make it easy for anyone still living in the area who might remember something to speak directly to a police officer working on the case, he said, adding that even the smallest detail could prove invaluable to investigators.“Let us judge if it’s important or not,” David said. “Maybe 20 years ago a person overheard a conversation in a bar, or heard a brother-in-law saying something, and they just stored that memory away. But for us it could be a gold mine of information.”“Cold cases are never ever closed,” David noted. “Unfortunately with this case, because it’s been over 37 years we’ve had to pass it from investigator to investigator because officers take their retirement ... but we just need that one tip.”Anyone with information about Sharron Prior’s disappearance or death is being urged to contact Longueuil police on their confidential tip line at 450-463-7211.mmuise@montrealgazette.comTwitter: @monique_muise

....Imagine if Sharon was your daughter, you would never give up....and nor should we,the police can use any clue or thought regardless of how insignificant someone thinks it may be,perhaps catching the murderer, may rely on something that has yet to be presented......
Hopefully someone out there helps the Prior family to get some final closure.
