Church Av. or St Catherine St. --You be the Judge !

Just came across this photo from the A Canadian Family website:

                           http://acanadianfamily.com/2009/02/18/scenes-of-st-catherine-street-1/?replytocom=13883

Visit it it is an interesting site: Now look at this postcard photo that is marked as Saint Catherine St & is supposed to be Woolworths. I think it looks a hell of a lot like Marshalls & Church & Wellington ,and knowing the mistakes we've exposed over the years from museums info etc ,.I think they refer to this as Woolworths, because of the Woolworths that was across the street on Wellington St just past Gagnon's

...now here is the Marshall's store ,they sure look similar,I know We have another shot of this corner somewhere ,which may show us more of down the street.Any suggestions out there?

I will say for sure that obviously there is no side door on what would be the Church Av side,.but these photo's are decades apart & could easily have been modified to allow more window space ......come to think of it I don't remember a side door to Marshall's anyway, but it appears to be in the photo.???/

This shot is for the lady that runs the A A Canadian website, if she visits us ( I did send her the webaddress) This is just to recall the whereabouts of Woolworth's ,being so close to the Marshall's store.

I remember helping the janitor at Chalmers United Church. I helped him clean the benches and sweep the church floor. He gave me $2.00. I went to Marshall's and bought 10 Christmas gifts, plus tissue paper. I spent the whole 2 bucks. Those were the days. That is a picture of that store....As for the Woolworth store. I remember one Christmas season standing Salvation Army kettles outside that store and it was about 20 below zero. I don't think I have ever been colder....

Les,
If you check my album no. 24 you will notice that the building at the corner of Church and Wellington has 3 stories whereas the St Catherine building has only 2..

Yes but this photo looks like it has a more modern facade, but your probably right, I know I have another older photo of the area around ,I just don't know where it is right now, Here is Guy's photo clearly showing 3 floors, the other photos don't really show the top of the building of Marshalls

Thanks Guy Cheers ! HF&RV

Also I think Guy is right ,since the bank of windows is a series of 3 windows in one photo & several sets of only 2 windows in the photo in question........ HF&RV Les
