Boardwalk

I have found a couple more old photos of the boardwalk wich I have added to my album no. 5. These photos where taken from the Messager Centennial Edition of December 15th 1976. Verdun was founded in 1876. Since the boardwallk was paved at the beginning of the 40s, these photos would have been taken prior to that period. I recall having walked on the "real" boardwalk in my youth.

My album no., 5 now contains a total of 30 photos of the boardwalk. There must have thousands of photos taken on that boardwalk. Hopefully more will turn up.
Here is an up to date slideview:

I remember paying .10 cents for an aircut at a private home on Galt avenue in the early 40s. As Pauline says, the regular barbers would charge .25 cents.
Times where hard and with 7 mouths to feed we would use all kinds of tricks to save money.

How can I have access to the Montreal Gazette archives on old editions of their newspaper. I went on their site but I am confused. Can someone work me through the process as I would like to transmit the information Pauline posted on the Verdun Natatorium. The city is organizing a an exposition called "Au Bord de L'eau" and is searching for old articles mainly on the Nat..

Pauline or Les,
I would like to download the 1938 and 1951 Gazette articles into my computer to be able to retransmit them to another party. I would like to start from scratch by going on to the Gazette site. Can this be done and how ?

Are you speaking of articles or the photo's that accompany some of the Gazette articles ? If you recall I did capture a couple of photos of the old Lasalle Power House Dam & posted them here.
As for capturing the story itself to share with someone else you can 'Link to the Article' and email the link. The photo capturing involves having a software program to help,I used Corel Draw for the photos.... HF&RV

Guy I did post a link from the main page to access all of the news papers that Google has archjived ,it speeds up the process a little and explains the How To's of the site as well. I don't recall which topic I posted that in ,but it was some time back, I will see if I can just repost the original link.

HF&RV
ps: not right now as I have a busy day & weekend planned ,but will certainly get it done at some point.

open Verdun Connection to this page

Open the program WORD or Note pad .
