Maison St Dizier (Old Stone House)

There will be the official opening of the Maison St Dizier as a museum on July 28th and of course all the important governement officials will be present. The governments have spent one and a half million dollars to renovate and do genealogical research in the building as well as in the surrounding area as this is the oldest standing building in the Montreal area having been built in 1710, 300 years ago. Indian as well as local farmers artifact where found and will be displayed so a visit by Verdunites and ex Verdunites is a must. As the photo I took last sunday shows, (unfortunately it was raining so excuse the bad results) a small tourist counter and snack bar (Case Croute) was built behind the Maison St Dizier. I plan to attend and will take photos wich I will share with you.

Who would have thought that some stone building that many of us passed on a daily basis and that we simply ignored could hold such history.... I for one never gave that building very much thought, but now finding myself wishing I had paid more attention...

I remember being in the building when it was a Royal Canadian Legion. It wasn't open with regular hours like most Legions, It was very interesting on the inside too.
