the "Auditorium"

It's easy to forget, that the verdun Auditoium was originally built as an assembly hall of sorts for the army,...they actually had a big celebration in there to honour George (Buzz) Beurling

Looks a little different in there doesn't it......then of course it was turned over to the city, for use by the citizens of Verdun....& we thank them for that, because we got to see tons of Hockey Games , as well as Verdun Carnivals ,where all the schools joined in,and they had their own kind of show on ice (Ice Capades type of thing

All in all it was & still is a great building, although personally I think the old facade was better looking than the present day one......

......and We also got to see the Montreal Canadiens use the rink for some of their practices, and that was always cool as a kid to see the bus arrive with the NHL Habs on board....
I can also remember the winter carnivals and just how crowed the Auditorium would be plus we got to see the Verdun Maple Leafs who in the 60's were a formidable team to say the least....

Look how close to the riverbank the Auditorium actually is/was.....as kids we played down there often, the boat club is just slightly out of view of this shot (if it was even there yet when they built the Aud)

" I wonder just how close it is to the riverbank today, with all the fill, they used ...........we call it 'fill' nowadays, but it was Garbage Dump right along the river for years......but I guess they picked all that up (yea right .hahaha) a prsent day shot would be neat to see ,just how much land they have reclaimed."

Les,
The VMBC Club was on the left of the photo. I was a member of the club and had a boat in the 50s.
I don't think the club was there in the beginning and I believe the club was in the bay at the foot of Hickson at that time and then moved next to the Auditorium probably in the 40s. I am only quessing as I don't have the date frame. You are right, landfill was added to the river bank, perhaps about 100 feet as I was there last summer with my bike.

Well thank god the dirty rebrobate didn't get to corrupt the youth of Verdun with his spectacle of swiveling hips.................hahahahahah The height of hypocrisy has to be Quebec banning anything.
