Auld Lang Syne (Cover) NEW YEARS SONG

"Auld Lang Syne" is a Scottish poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and set to the tune of a traditional folk song (Roud # 6294). It is well known in many English-speaking countries and is often sung to celebrate the start of the new year at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Day.

The song's (Scots) title may be translated into English literally as "old long since", or more idiomatically, "long long ago"[1] or "days gone by". The phrase "Auld Lang Syne" is also used in similar poems by Robert Ayton (15701638), Allan Ramsay (16861757), and James Watson (1711) as well as older folk songs predating Burns. In his retelling of fairy tales in the Scots language, Matthew Fitt uses the phrase "In the days of auld lang syne" as the equivalent of "Once upon a time." In Scots syne is pronounced like the English word sign and the trigonometric word sine. (Courtesty of wikipedia)

Lyrics:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And days of auld lang syne

For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We'll take a cup o'kindness yet
And days of auld lang syne
Have a Listen to this kid play an acoustic guitar & sing Auld Lang Syne
I think he's pretty good,.......maybe you will too !

Happy New Year , Cheers !! Have Fun & Remember Verdun...........
ps: best played at midnight tonight LOUD..........hahahahahaha

Another year to look back on. Another year of people sharing their thoughts and pictures. Sharing the past through pictures and the history of our beloved Verdun, and Montreal. We have been fortunate to have some wonderful, dedicated people on here that have gone "above and beyond" to spend their time and efforts to bring us such wonderful memory jogging information. Things that have made us feel good and some that have been very nostalgic. Thanks for all you do to keep our dreams and memories of years gone by. Hope we all have a Happy New Year. Take care everyone, and stay safe.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM DOWN UNDER! The sun is shining, the birds are singing and all is well here in the land of Oz...well, at least here in Western Australia. Wishing all Verdunite members and their families a happy and healthy 2011! Diane

Happy New Year, Les. Haven't been active on the site but busy. Book almost done, end of this month, then another book project I was asked to do. As one year stretches into another, with all its dents and joys, I am looking forward to a hear of possibilities. A Happy New Year to all my Verdun friends.

In my rush, I meant year not "hear" of possibilities.

Don't forget to let us know when you complete the book. I will make a suggestion that the library purchase it ,for their catalogue/ Sometimes they will purchase Canadian authours. The only difference is they no longer contact the person that suggests the book, they used to alert you & you would then be the first person to read it.
Cheers !! HF&RV

Thanks Diane for the new year wishs,.your fortunate these days to have all the sunshine in western Oz,........because Queensland seems to be having a deluge ,with a lot of cities completely under water. A tough time for those families for sure, but generally people pull together & help each other when needed. Sadly though there are also looters & lowlifes who take advantage of the situation.
Enjoy your summer, while we continue with our winter..lol HF&RV

You'll know and my Verdun groups will get acknowledged for their help in my research. Remember it is a novel not a non-fiction account so I have taken liberties. I might get in trouble. :0 Ho well!

Yes Les, we are fortunate here in the West. Queenslanders have suffered years of drought and now this tragedy. But Aussies do pull together and are very generous in times of need. Big country but still one big close knit family that help out each other...Diane
