OLYMPICS...At Last!

Watched the opening ceremony with a group of Aussie friends and it was absolutely breathtaking, especially the Orca Whales scene.  Didn't like the version of Oh Canada...much too slow and jazzed up!  My girlfriend Maria (former Montrealer) and I decided we would stand & belt it out properly, much to the surprise of our friends!.  Let the games begin and have a wonderful celebration over the next two weeks Canada...I'll be with you all every step of the way!....Diane xxx  P.S.  We'd had a glass or two of Champagne to celebrate in style!  .

Made me feel very proud for Canada, also. 99.99% satisfied with how it went. I felt the same way about the singing of Oh Canada. Seems like everyone wants to sing it some screwed up way.... Same as the singing of The American anthem.... Just sing it the way is suppose to be sung.......

Way to go Diane! Glad there were others to sing the Nat'l Anthem! Some people think that the end of the anthem is like in hockey where the last notes go upwards - they just don't seem to know the right tune nor tempo...a lost art I believe. Sherry

Ahhh...you would have been proud of us Sherry! Maria and I kept in proper tune, knew all the words and practically broke our Aussie friends eardrums!
We might be Australians now, but you'll never take the Canadian out of us!

You're right Diane! You will always be Canadian in your heart - have a "Tooheys" for me - with something thrown on the BarB to go with it!! I drank Tooheys with my Aussie buddies when I was a Peacekeeper in Egypt - loved that beer - too bad we can't get it here! In fact, still in touch with a few of the fellas all these years (since 1977 actually)!

Watched the video clip Jumper and the girl can sing! Lovely song and inspirational, but why do they have to play around with National Anthems! It happens here in Oz, the USA, Canada etc etc.
National Anthems are the vocal heart of a country and should always be sung the same way, so all can learn to sing their Anthem and other nations of the world can easily recognise it. If a country doesn't like their National Anthem, by all means, change it. But please guys, let's not play around with them and aim for #1 on the Pop Charts! ...Diane

If the americans do it. It's cool everybody must imitate them even if it's stupid i.e.those stupid pants falling of their asses, rap and war.

How do you think you are cool when you look like a penguin walking with your pants half way down your ass? When these fools try to get on the bus they have to grab their crotch to be able to lift their legs to get on - THAT'S NOT cool! Just looks like you could only afford to wear some fat guy's pants that he was too little to wear anymore and you forgot the belt!

The origins of sagging come from the United States prison system due to two primary factors. First, uniforms issued to prisoners are usually a few sizes too large. Secondly, belts are prohibited to avoid suicide by hanging oneself, or to avoid being used as a weapon in fights.[2] Contrary to popular belief, the practice did not originate as a means of one prisoner telling another that he is available for homosexual sex.[3] The style was later popularized by hip-hop artists in the 1990s.[2]

blacks contribute about half of all prison inmates when they are only 13 percent of the U.S. population

Okay friends, let's not just pick on our poor American cousins for their hip hop cool baggy pants(mind you, the bum crack is way too much!). Do we all remember sewing up our new jeans, washing them in boiling water and bleach to fade and shrink them, just so we could then lie on a bed struggling to get them on! Dressed to kill in crenolines (now that ages me!) under wide skirts (very scratchy!) with tight 4 inch elastic cinch belts with a flash clasp so we could dance the night away at Dompolski Hall in the Point! Hot Pants and the dreaded platform shoes (British imports) that we hobbled along on trying to look sexy???, but hey, we looked cool! The "Gothics" are just a repeat of my style and many others of the late 50's & early 60's...long black hair, black slacks, black turtleneck, black eyeliner and pale, pale lipstick (scary!). I think it was the Beatnik look back then! Can we think of other styles and fads that defined our teenage years...the time of rebellion against anything and everything! Crazy motorcycle and car rides, Jug- A- Lug competitions etc etc., but thankfully, hard drug use wasn't prevalent during our youth. Bacardi & Coke, beer plus smoking cigarettes was our drugs of choice. Luckily, most of us managed to survive it all Let's hope the teenagers of today make it to the other side, so they can look back amused at their antics in "The Good Ole Days"!...Diane

The Olympic curse is over. Canada has finally won a gold medal on home ground, thanks to a wonderful French Canadian mogul skier. Let's hope there's at least one more in the pipeline! Go, Go Canada!...Diane

Yes I do remember all of those. My mother broke my heart, and finally told me I could not wear that stuff anymore, even if it was in the privacy of our home.... It was a sad sad time for me....But now that I am an adult....I can wear whatever I want...When no one is around...Happy days are here again!!!!!!!

Ain't life grand?????m Winston!!!!
