Wow I just took a drive down Woodland Av ,then turned left onto Wellington, tried to see Muir's old shop, but the facade has changed and it looks like it';s all one dwelling(condos??) but it's a great new feature, something like when Google Earth came out, & everyone tried it, then it disappears into the background ,as we all are looking for the 'next best thing'............However it's fun to take a tour, regardless of where you may reside,.but Remember Have Fun & Remember Verdun

If you are not certain, how Google 'street view' actually works, then checkout this tutorial page by Google on the street view deal.......

Good luck , I think you will have fun with it, for a while. As I learn more things about it's capabilities I will post them here. HF&RV

It is fun Les - it's amazing how real everything looks. I got right to the front door of St. Willibrord's and almost managed to see the collection plates inside the door. I also checked out the door that the nuns disappeared into when they went into their convent of VCHS - then I retraced your steps down Woodland - it's a bitch turning the corners though - lol.

Glad you liked it, I looked into the window of Woodland Restaurant & I could see the reflection of the car with the camera's on it, and the Google label on the side of the car.
As for turning Sandy ,just use those directional arrows at the top left side, You also can click your mouse & hold the button down then drag the map whichever way you like as well......
I've already gone for a drive down Lasalle Blvd & looked at my old apartment ,I had a view of the Mercier Bridge & the River, right at 90th & Lasalle Blvd. My apartment was on the 3rd floor corner apartment, there used to be a Pirette store on the ground floor(Remember those stores they had a milk jug on the sign & were basically a 7/11 or a Mac's type of spot), now it's some 24 hour restaurant /Bar looking thing, I imagine that's a ton of fun to listen to all night...hahahaha Fun to drive around lasalle & Verdun, I have not gone downtown yet,but I will..... I found this photo on the web the other day, (Coolopolis I think it was) but it looked familiar, & I thought it was one of our old members who knew or lived in this house,I don't know the address but 'm going to see if I can find it ,using the street view deal......

Anyone remember who might know this house,?? HF&RV

this house is 314 woodland, it has a dirt basement, no insulation, old windows, very cold in the winter
it has a nice front yard, the tree in front is cut done. it was our home till we sold it for 6000.00
in 1968. funny this came up?? my mom passed away a few weeks ago, the duplex she bought for 17000.00 in 1968 is going on the market soon for 430,000.

I knew it was one of the members here, but could not recall who exactly,..I know your friend steve lived on woodland too,if I'm not mistaken & thought it may have been his house...I saw this a few weeks ago on another site,( I think it was Coolopolis) but I'm not sure of that either , as I search all kinds of sites for Montreal or Verdun stuff..... I will try to locate the site again .

many times on a venture to verdun, i show this house to my freinds that are from out of town
i tell them, back then living in that house, with no phone, no tv, not the greatest heating system,
we didn't even have a car, our transport was the bus to the atwater market, also to the salvation army store on notre dame, many times as a little kid, i dreamed of owning a car so i can drive my mom
while i stood in the bus holding on that chrome bar, carry them brown paper bags tied with white string, from the salvation army, grocies from the market. winter time was hardest time.
we had several cats, for protection because all the river rats would look for a home in the fall time, that dirt basement was there home, so we had the toughest alley cats around.
summer time was the best time, my best childhood days back then, my buddies we would share
our treats, drink out the same pepsi bottle, we would work nights, saturdays to deliver gorceries
to have money, we never got a allowance, we had to earn our own, so you wanted a bike or a hockey stick from wolf cycle, you had to work for it.
the egan lanes, wellington street, the boardwalk, parks, fishing, biking we had wealth on childhood
freindship, we enjoyed verdun.
i always get a front window seat at woodland restaurant, i can look out the window and see the past
of memories. today verdun is a different place to live, mainly the location, subway, riverfront boardwalk etc.

Good Luck HF&RV

Les, this is great! Just logged on today to Verdun Connections after a break and found out how to cruise the streets of Verdun! The place looks spruced up alittle, but the Avenues look pretty much the same.....best place to grow up in!.....Diane
