Mystery Building

Our society (SHGV) has received an enquiry asking if we recognize this building. The lady in question found the photo in her old shoe box. I never saw this photo before and may not be from Verdun, however, perhaps a member may recognize it. Notice the escape chute on the right.

Being only two story's high,is odd in itself, with such tall windows on each floor (excluding semi basement windows) I'd think this has to be an old school. There is virtually nothing built around ,that can be seen. What is that shute on the right side of the building coming down from the 2nd floor. It looks like one of those shutes they use to drop construction material down, while renovating, but those are almost always straight down. This tube looks almost like a slide ? I cannot recall ever seeing something like this . If you look on the left side of the photo, you can see the Mountain way in the background (or at least higher ground way off in the distance)......and the whole school is surrounded by a fence around it's perimeter, & a school would most likely have had a higher fence.????
I wonder if there records & photos of all the schools in Verdun.maybe through the library ? Clicking on the photo does give you a better perspective.......
Good question Guy, it will be interesting to find out which building it is.

That escape shute looks like a permanent installation as we do not see any construction material in the area. I first thought that perhaps it was the Model school that was on Lasalle Blvd facing Gordon but it does not resemble 2 photos of the school that I have.

Also the surrounding property would have shown the boardwalk or at the very least since the Model School predates the actual boardwalk, the River would be visible. I agree though ,it certainly resembles that style building. I checked to see if it was one of the YMCA buildings up on Gordon Avenue, but it doesn't seem to be that one either, Although I can't think of anywhere esle in Verdun that would have had that much land around it,with no sign of other buildings, ( Maybe Crawford Pk along the Douglas Property ??
