Hmmmmm Trouble in paradise ?? Turcot woes

Seems there some opposition to the big mayors plan,

A $1.5-billion plan to refurbish the Turcot interchange is "unacceptable," flies in the face of provincial policies on sustainable development, mass transit and public health and should be scrapped, the head of Montreal's public health department said last night.

.....this is an excerpt from a story on the Turcot Plan,.in todays Gazette........

here's the link to the whole story:

Hey did u see where the Mayor is accusing La Presse of a smear campain.
The SQ is investigating into certain practices shall we say about handing out contracts.
They are doing the roof on city hall for one...

Same ol for sure but I attended the BAPE hearings this week and it was unbelievable how many groups came out with briefs explaining why the Turcot rebuild was just a bad plan. And it's already estimated that the 1.5 billion price tag has been upped to 3 billion. I predicted a few years ago that it would go over 5 billion and way over schedule. Looks like they are going to have to to rethink it because all the politicians came on board this week and that means that Charest will look retarded if he tells the MTQ to just go ahead with their plans. Sometimes the underdog wins. though I wouldn't pop any corks just yet. As far as I know this whole movement to rethink Turcot started on the kitchen table of one woman who lives in the Saint Henri neighborhood where demolitions are called for under the current plan. There is a pretty cool story emerging here.....

You know I just remembered a visit to Montreal many years ago, where my brother & I decided to walk towards the Bronx from the other side of the Acky ,.from the Shevchenko side down towards the Bishop Power side & on to the Lai Lings Restaurant ,(previously known as Golden City) now this was many years ago & I have never had the same experience on subsequent visits,.but both my brother & I could really smell the 'exhaust fumes' as we approached the Laverendrye & Shevchenko intersection,...so I can only imagine what the carbon monoxide levels must be today in the Turcot Interchange area,.perhaps there is something real about this public health concern now, afterall 230,000 cars ,cruising by all day ,has got to be emitting some serious fumes. I remember Decarie BLvd ,almost 40 years ago being a horrible experience when stuck in traffic. These are things we 'get used to' when we live in a place for a while, but it doesn't make it any better for us. Do they still print the 'air quality' ratings, like they used in the top right hand corner of the Montreal Star ???
.....This thought reminds me of a 'quote' I once read in a book written by Arthur Hailey,......(not Roots) but one called 'Wheels' and in the forward was written this:
" Henceforth,No Wheeled Vehicles Whatsoever will be allowed within the precincts of the City, from sunrise until the hour before dusk......
Those which shall have entered during the night, and are still within the City at dawn, must Halt & stand empty until the appointed hour...........

Now that sounds like good thinking,.Guess who wrote this gem of wisdom ?
