Deaf of Buffalo Bill 10th January 1917

Here is an old La Presse article advising the death of Buffalo Bill on the 10th of January 1917, his real name was William F. Cody. He was born in Iowa 26th February 1846 and was a hunter, scout, soldier, sherif, circus director and ranch owner. He killed 4280 Buffalos thus his name Buffalo Bill. He was deputy in the Nebraska legislature. He had a hand to hand fight with an indian called Yellow Head wich he killed and he fought at Wounded Knee. In 1893 he founded The Wild West Circus and performed in front of Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, and King of Greece. He was injured several times but survived due to a strong constitution..

We all make mistakes including myself and the important thing is to try your best and to learn from your mistakes.

You're absolutely correct Guy, however, I think most of our spelling mistakes are made because of typing errors. I'm a fairly fast typist and my fingers fly faster than my thoughts at times!
I've noticed that you used to post your blogs in both languages in the past on of VC. I liked that because it gave me a chance to practice my limited French. I wouldn't be surprised if other far-flung Verdunites felt the same....a lovely reminder of home....Diane

Diane,
You are the first one to congratulate me on my effort to use both official languages wich I have done on the old site but did not continue on the new site. However, I do post in my site in both langages.
Check it out as there are over 400 photos on old and new Verdun.

Guy, why don't you start posting in English and French again? You never know, It just might encourage some French Verdunites to participate on the site....Diane

Diane,
A very good point. When I first joined the old Verdun Connections Site, I started posting in both languages with the expectation that present and old Verdunites would join the group as there are no similar french groups.. However, I feel that the iniative should come from the founder and management to promote this formula. Another idea would be to have a section for french speaking members as is done in some other sites. Bare in mind that previously the population of Verdun was 35% french speaking and 65% English speaking. Now the percentage has changed and is 65% French speaking, 15% English speaking and 15% Allophones wich is comprised of immigrants wich no doubt speak their own language but go to French or English schools. I would be willing to participate in a co-ordinating capacity if this would help the site to grow as this would target thousands of other former and present Verdunites wich number in the thousands. Also, my position as Vice President of the Société d'Histoire et de Généalogie de Verdun opens our archives to the MVC site as members of this site have benefited with my postings of articles and photos of the SHGV archives. But this is a 2 way street since I also draw from the contribution of members of this site. In conclusion, having to translate is a tedious job and I have to limit myself due to other commitments.
Thanks again Diane for bringing up the subject.

If anyone wants to translate something, then there are plenty of sites that offer that service, here's one
http://babelfish.yahoo.com/
So if anyone is so inclined to translate what they see here or anywhere else then you can copy a whole block of text & paste it in the window on the above site & translate it to Yiddish if you like,
Personally doubling the amount of text is nice in some respects but it's really not neccessary for the most part.Anyone pretty much can join this site,as it's original idea was to make 'Connections' which it does . It also is a great source of a wide variety of Montreal ,Verdun, Quebec stuff,..etc etc.....as well as a source for capturing old verdun photos and such......
