DILALLO HAMBURGERS IN THE LATE FIFTIES!

Remember the small restaurant in Ville Emard (on Monk & Allard) that served hamburgers with yellow banana peppers on them!  The owner used to have a competition with the teenagers to see who could eat the most over a certain period of time.  I remember only the guys entering the contest (girls were wiser) and some of them could have done with a fire extinguisher by the time they finished!....What those teenage boys would do to try to impress the girls!.....Diane

Hi Diane,
I sure remember Dilallo's when they were right at the corner of Allard & Monk. Had the pleasure of downing a few hamburgers there on occasion. They have been around since 1929

A few years ago we celebrated my Mom's 90th in the basement reception hall at their new location on Allard near Hurteau St.

I now enjoy eating Pizza with Jalapeno peppers spread all over them, gives one that hot feeling all over.

Dilallo's always a favourite stop ,after a late night of party-ing,....and of course 'Peppers' were a must
I remember the original store as well,...also my brother took me there when I was just a kid,so I got used to those burgers in a hurry. At one time that little store had a sliding little window,so they could yell out to the Taxi and tell them where to go (so to speak..lol) The Taxi stand was on the corner ,and this was before the big company's & radio dispatch ,..Remember when you saw 'Radio Dispatch' that was like the Future........hahahaha HF&RV

remember that little window..going there after a night out..special with cheese 65 cents...
and then they invented the buck burger...a buck then..last time there closer to 3 or 4 I think..
They do sell souvenirs at the cash...hats,steins,etc.

Ah! Many a buck burger at DiLallo's in Ville LaSalle on Dollard Ave. I did beer and grocery deliveries at first on one of them 3 wheeled bicycles, then a Volks (beetle) finally a brand new dodge van, for Laterie Ginnette owned by Joe Russo. Most of tips from deliveries turned into buck burgers or a friendly game of flooze ball at the Italian pool hall next door. (71-74)

If you wanted them hotter you would ask to have the bun dipped in the pepper juice.

I remember DiLallo's opening a small spot on Thierry Near Newman, but the consensus was ,it just wasn't the same,.they started to open several more for a while ,but that didn't last, from what I remembered. I can't remember the one on Dollard, I guess that was after I left for out west, it would have been handy for sure ,as we used to go to Bert's and then after that late night stuff,we'd sometimes go right beside there for a Pizza at Miss Dollard (Mama's as we called it) .and then across the street I remember a restaurant opening that had pretty good Pizza too,,It sounds like it was in the location of what became a DiLallo's ....? I know the last time I was back for a visit,I was surprised at all the changes & new buildings along Dollard,at one time it was rather desolate,.... HF&RV

Mike left his brothers and opened on Thierry, and it was M.DiLallo's.They used to order their meat from the same butcher and it was suppose to be the same blend of meat mixture but it didn't taste the same.I guess it was the new grills.
