Building in Question

Hi , here's two pics to compare,.also if you type into Google Maps the address 7600 block or 7700 block it will show you another present day look which looks a little different from the one Guy posted, good comparison,..but the aerial picture shows the area as they enclosed the little body of water, it looks like today it's all been filled in,.across the street from where I lived there was a Knight of Columbus building or something like that on the riverside of Lasalle Blvd I lived across the street & I did post an old photo of that view years ago on the old MSN site.. ( I will try to find it again)

Hi Les - I lived across the street from the Knights of Columbus too. My address was 4465 LaSalle Blvd. What was your address. Just wondering if we were neighbours?

Hi Willie I did reply to this question through your site, but now I see your talking about the KoC in Verdun,..actually when you lived there ,I lived down on Wellington in the 4200 block(since demolished)but it was right beside Norman's Patates Frites,...... the 7600 block of lasalle blvd I was thinking of is out in Ville Lasalle , as I mentioned In my email to your site..... There were a few of those type of 'orders' around in those days Knights of Colombus was one but there were others too,....Anyone remember the names,..the one I lived across from leased out some of it's property for a local Datsun dealer to store their new cars on..they were situated up on Broadway or George in Lasalle,at the time I worked for the Texaco at 3rd & Champlain,..........blah blah blah............ I love the picture on the right. I was on the island once, is it Herron on the left? - and I was totally knocked out by the view of the river going between the two islands. High and pretty fast water. I remember thinking how remarkable it was to see that, then walk just a bit and see the skyline of Montreal!

Ken , have a look at the album in th photo album area,of Heron Island ,it was one of the albums brought over here from the old site it really shows some neat lifestyle they have over there, Truly an Oasis and like you say,all within eyeshot of the unmistakable Montreal Skyline...
I'll put the album right to the front of the pile,so you don't have to look all over. I beleieve they only have power in the form of Propane or generator's of course, what a great escape from the city,& the waterway that runs between them is a perfect playground it seems......

Guy I think this building in question is something relatively new, as the information on the site where the picture came from indicates it was taken in 2007 .....and if you look at the other building s that can be seen in the background they are a lot newer than 60's style buildings ,also it's listed as an outdoor theater....and I am quite certain that while I walked up Bishop Power plenty of times,& 9th av,where I lived for a few years that there was absolutely no outdoor theater of any kind there,or all the students from nearby LCCHS would have been up there as it's only a block away supposedly. Perhaps if you have a chance ,you might be able to checkout the building, and see if there's a building date (commemorative plaque) or something like that.I suspect it was built around the same time that they built the outdoor dance floor in Verdun near the Douglas Hospital,.all part of the 'greening' of the riverbank from one end of the island to the other. I will check the City of Lasalle website & see if I can find out any more info.......unfortunately since the amalgamation of all the Burroughs ,the web site is usually hijacked by the City of Montreal site,& doesn't give a lot of info anymore , but i will try. hf&rv

I was going to mention that Les. Your reply seemed to indicate LaSalle and not Verdun. There was a Chrysler dealer across the street from Adams I thing anyway somewhere around 3rd Ave. i thin kthere was a gas station as well, can't remember exactly. The Knights of Columbus across from our place was between Willibroad and Rielle. There were a few others as well. I think the Orangemans Hall was on Hickson. I remember the "50 Club" one of the few places that I managed to get into (they must have really needed money eh) - i was about 4 foot nothing!
