Les   Here's one..do you recall the name of the store that was just down from Norman's near 3rd. used to have to go there and buy the Gazette in AM..   Danny Carney lived down the block near 4th...did you know him?   Lad

The Carney names does sound familiar, but again I'd have to defer to DannyB's memory ,as he seems to have better recall than I do. As for the store wasn't Curries on the corner ,.then about midway down the block was a snackbar type of store with a long old counter with some counter stools,.this spot used to always have those hockey tickets for sale Remember stapled in two, with the last secon score / last goal penalty etc etc ..there was always two tickets stuck in the calendar on the wall, as you walked in the place ( these were 'gratis' for the local gendarmes, )   maybe this store sold the paper,.too?? Also just on the other side of 3rd av one building in was a little store that faced onto Verdun ,a real Mom & Pop store                                                                                  HF&RV

lad:  I knew I had this shot somewhere in the works,...have a look and you will recognise the area quickly:   The Mom & Pop store I was mentioning is the one with the Kik Cola sign,..........Norman's would have been the necy block over, but this shot predates Norman's but all the other little spots were there..........................           HF&RV  Remember the funeral processions in those days ,

Les   Remember that store..Curries at the corner..the store I am talking about is the 2nd one down from the corner just before Norman's.Think across the street was a carpet store.  Not sure..Laura Secords on corner..   Great photo..wonder if that sign is still there..   Lad

Hi Lad:   Laura Secord's was at the Northwest corner of 3rd Avenue and the Carpet Store was on the Southwest corner of third ,across from the Kick Cola store in the picture.   George

Hi George   Right on..thanks..last time I saw that area the carpet store I believe was gone. Laura Secord's long gone. Think it is a community kitchen food bank store of some kind now..any idea of the depanneur across the street just off the corner across from Laura Secord's.....   Lad

Hi Lad:   I was down in that area last Saturday with my eldest brother, who was visiting me from BC.  We literally drove by that spot and then went up 6th Avenue to Bannantyne  then down 5th Avenue to find a parking space so that we could go into New Verdun Resturant for brunch.  I don't think I saw a deppaneur there now and I can't remember the one you mention.  The next time down I'll take a picture of that area.   George
