VACATIONS

Hi people, Many of us take a winter holiday and it would be great if anyone has previously been to the same areas and could suggest points of interest or any comments.   I'll start it off.........we are planning a holiday in IXTAPA-ZIAHUATANEJO,MEXICO.............. Have any of you been their and could shed some light on this area?? It has become very popular, but is still a laidback area of mexico.  If you saw the movie "Shawshank Redemption" years ago, it is mentioned in that movie, and also footage of this area.

Hope someone has been there and can give us info , where to dine, interesting things to see, etc.

Let's hope this subject keeps going for anyone else that ventures somewhere new.....

Hi Cookie, We have been there several times, but that was about 15 years ago.  I am sure things have changed since then.  We did love it though, very quiet compared to Acapulco.  The restaurants have probably gone, but we did go to Carlos & Charlies which is a popular Mexican restaurant, and we ate in Bogards which was nice.  If I think of anything else will let you know......Judy

Hi Judy..... all we heard from some folks is that the beaches are gorgeous, much better than PuertoVallarta area, and there are lots of eating places now, I noticed Carlos & Charlies are all over mexico just about.   Zihautanejo and Ixtapa are not crowded like other areas in mexico, more laid back, gotta' love that!! thanks for your reply Judy.   cookie

Hi Cookie, You probably don't remember me (Judy's LIL Sister Harriett). My husband and I have been to Ixtapa and Zwhat, short version by us travel agents. You can take the local buses into Zwhat. Really a great way to see quite a few things. Really a cute town and fun to walk around in. Ixtapa is  quiet compared to most of Mexico. Just be aware of the RIP TIDES, the waves are very strong and pull you out. Almost happened to my husband. He would not let me go in the water after that. I'm a pool lover anyway and want to know what I am swimming with. The whole Pacific coast has strong under currents. Have a great time Harriet(Grayburn) Hewitt

Hi Harriet,  I sure remember your name, so that's a start.  Thanks for the info on Zwhat/Ixtapa....I will let you know how we made out when we return home in March. Looking forward in visiting another part of mexico, and I will enjoy the quietness of Ixtapa. Hello to Judy if you talk to her soon.   cookie

Anyone looking for info or recommendations to hotels in Mexico,Cuba,Punta Cana,Jamaica,Aruba, Curacao,USVI's,Panama,Bahamas,Antigua,VegasSandals,Florida,California, and Texas plus many other places in the states. Send me an email at harriett_hewitt@hotmail.com. I am a travel agent here in Kingston, Ontario. I really enjoy making sure that people get all the right info and helping them out. Please do not ask me where the cheapest place is - everything depends on when, where, & how long.
I will not quote prices. I only want to help people to get a good decent place to stay at and enjoy their holidays. Suggestions only!!! Most of the time they are only four star and higher. Like they say you get what you pay for.
