Belmont Park Today

I was in Cartierville today and took the following pictures. There is a bicycle path now under the bridge where I took a photo of the river bank where Belmont Park was situated.

Hi Guy

Thanks for the pictures. I was thinking about Belmont Park the other day. I watched a bit of a show here in Toronto about a park similar to Belmont Park in northern NY state. People were remembering it fondly. They showed film of it and it reminded me of Belmont. Nothing fancy. No Grande Spectacle like the parks now. But that didn't matter all those years ago. It was fun , an adventure. I would make one trip to Belmont Park in the summer each year....hoping it wouldn't rain. and it was magic.

Merci Guy

But what is on the actual ground that was the old Belmont park?  Remember that restaurant before you got to the gates - we always stopped there.  Lucky for my sister and I we had an aunt and in some ways her youngest brother who loved Belmont park and they would take us there a few times during the summer - WE LOVED IT!!!

Shirley, On the actual ground where Belmont Park was situated is now a park with grass and benches and a short boardwalk along Rivi챔re des Prairies, something like a mini Verdun boardwalk.. I posted pictures of the park a year or two ago. I will try and find the link and post it. I should have the photos in my computer. Guy

Les, that was great to see. My parents used to take us kids to Belmont Park every year.  I think dad got tickets at a discount from the Northern, it was the most exciting time, knowing that we were going and just being there. I can still remember the sights, sounds and smells of it all.  After being there all day,  in bed at night trying to go to sleep, I'd still feel like I was on ride. Those were the best times!     Carole

Is the amuzement park no longer around? We used to go to Belmont Park a lot in the 60's. Another great place was the Granby Zoo.

Hi, Carole! My stepdad worked at the Northern, too. We were all transfered to Kingston when the Northern plant opened in Kingston in 1970.

No more Belmont Park it is just a big green park now according to Guy - Granby Zoo is still doing well - my son takes the kids a few times a year.   In my mother's day there was an amusement park around St James and Dominion or there abouts in the west end.  Does anyone remember that?  Maybe it was Vinet - I remember my mother mentioning it - as she was taking us to the dentist which I think was upstairs from the City & District Savings bank that was on north east corner. He wasnt a great dentist but at least he put us to sleep - Thank God for small mercies.

Wow that brought back memories.  I kept looking for myself in the film.  I loved that place especially the caterpiller ride and sitting by the river eating french fries.  Wonderful film.  Thank you.

My Dad worked at Northern Electric and I remember going to Belmont Park For A Company Picnic, They gave you strips of tickets and you had all the rides for free. I also remember Northern Christmas Parties at the Verdun Auditorium.Iwent to La Salle Road School 1940 to 1948  . The dendist you are thinking about was DR. Lusseir. He had his first office on the 2nd  floor at Willibroad and wellington. His son use to show silent black and white cartoons on the wall for the Kids On sat. morning

Hi Duck,   We were all transferred to Kingston too, in 1974. Small world!  We lived on Sir John A MacDonald, my parents live there for over 30 yrs, my Dad died 4 years ago and 2 years ago my mom moved to Belleville.   Carole
