New Member saying hi

Hi all

I am a new member since July 26, 2008.  I lived in Verdun on Woodland Avenue in what I have been told is former Mayor Wilsons house.  The big old one at 728 on the dawsons side of the street.

I attended Woodland school for grade 3 in 1975-1976, St. Thomas More for grades 4-6 from 1976-1979, and grade 7 at VCCHS 1979-1980.  I left Verdun in 1980 to move to Ontario with my parents when my father transferred.

My father is Robin (Robert) Turner, my mother is Diane Simpson.  The Turners lived in several different locations in Verdun, 297 1st Ave, 219 2nd Ave, Argyle (dont know the house number), The Simpsons lived mainly on 3rd Avenue.  447 was the house number.

My grandparents Simpson are George and Doris (nee Holmes) both deceased.  They had 5 childresn, Donald, Doris, Mary, George and my mother Diane.  My grandparents Turner are Les(William Leslie) and Leonie(nee Bessette) both deceased.  They had 2 children, my father Robin(Robert) and Paul.

Hi Joan, welcome to Verdun Connections. The Simpson name sounds familiar but I don't recall anyone in particular. I must have passed your family on the street numerous times however. I lived at 457 2nd from 1941 t0 1959. My family name is Cooper and I have a younger brother Robert.
Take care,
Bill

Hi Joan, Just had a look at your mum's grade 5 picture and found myself looking back at me! I'm in the second row from the right, 3rd seat back.  Which one is your mum?   Pat (Daly)

Hi Joan, I was also a friend of your dad and also your uncle Paul.  I lived on 2nd. avenue at 684, on the third flat and Laurette and Carol Turgeon lived on the bottom flat.  I remember both of them in their kilts and my husband wanted me to mention that he also hung around with them.  He remembers New Year's Eve piping and drumming down 2nd. avenue dropping in on friends/neighbors for a drink.   Please say hello to both of them for us.  Would love to hear how they have done over the last 40 years. Ask Paul if he ever hears from Jerry Duguid, Andy Adams or George Edwards. We both lost contact many years ago with the friends we hung around with in the 60's-70's.       Kay (Neil) and Stu Turner (no relation - his mom was a Simpson but again no relation, he thinks, to your family)

Hi Pat   Mom is in the last seated row, just before the girls standing up.  The 4th back.  Or second from the back which ever is easiest for you to find her.

Hi Kay   I have my own ID now.   Is Stu the Turner who used to live on 1st Ave. across the street from Rhoda Starke (I wonder what became of her)?  I remember a Stu Turner from there. I could see the back of his house from the back of my house across the lane. I used to hang out on Stu's balcony listening to his 45s.

Hi Laurette   Paul actually lives in Gloucester Ontario - a suburb of Ottawa. I used to run into George Edwards and his wife Barbara (Fallon) in downtown Toronto from time to time. I don't work there any more so I don't have that chance. I have no idea where they live.   The last I heard of Gerry Duguid was that he got posted to Alberta with the army. I haven't heard a thing since then.   A couple of years ago Andy Adams' older brother died. I replied to the obituary in the Gazette but I didn't get any feedback.   Say hi to Carol for me.   Robin

Yes he is one and the same.  We got married in 1998.  Who would have known that when we hung around in the 50's-60's that we would have gotten married.
