GENERATION GAP JULY 19TH.

Hi everyone, just a short note to bring everyone up-to-date with the Verdun Generation Gap 40th. Anniversary Reunion being held on July 19th. at the Verdun Legion. The response has been amazing and I have to sadly announce that the event is "SOLD OUT" My thanks to all who have contributed in some way. All proceeds will be going to charity and I will let everyone know what is happening in the near future.

The event will be filmed so ALL our friends spread over the globe will be able to see what went on even though they could not attend, again I will keep all posted when placed on U-Tube!!!!!

One other important note: There will be a Verdun get-together on July 18th. at the Hotel de la Montagne on Mountain St. at approximately 6:30 7:00 is on the rooftop terrace, ask or look for Glen Pilon, so come on down and enjoy the evening and see some old buddies.

Again "Thanks to all".

It'll be a riot! (figuratively speaking, I hope). We'd love to post a link to your U-tube video when it is ready!

Don't forget tonight : One other important note: There will be a Verdun get-together on July 18th. at the Hotel de la Montagne on Mountain St. at approximately 6:30 7:00 is on the rooftop terrace, ask or look for Glen Pilon, so come on down and enjoy the evening and see some old buddies.   .and of course Remember tomorrow is the main event:   Have Fun & Remember           Verdun....... ps: you may want to party easier tonight,as none of you are can do two days in a row (I suspect).........hahahahahaha         and Remember what Mike Guald suggested as the 'theme'                                Come as you Were...............hahahahah          hf&rv

This was a very cool event. It was amazing to meet a few people I hadn't seen in over 30 years. Kind of strange, but very nice, to be part of a happening at the Legion on a Saturday night, mingling with the other smokers outside, a few of whom went all the way and had a toke at The Monument! The band was great! These guys were really cooking for a group that hasn't played together in almost 40 years. In many ways it was like the old days were just last week. I am very grateful that this was put together, thanks!   Ken McLaughlin

Thanks Ken, looking forward to more reviews. I'm settling for NAZARETH at the fair tonight. Verdun is still a lifetime away.

Ken that's sounds like it was a real goodtime,.... can't wait to see some you tube footage. A gathering like that would have had a strange but compfortable feel to it I bet. As far as not playing together for 40 years & sounding terific ,that's fantastic wish I could have been there. I was at a combination 40th anniversary (my brother & sister-in-law) and also my brothers 65th,.with a bunch of us being from Montreal,it was the best we could do to mirror the event in Verdun...hahahaha  it was fun , but the Verdun one would have been my choice.....oh Well Thanks for the update.................................................................HF&RV

Karen and I just back from Verdun and the Generation Gap revival. I used to ge to that hall in the 1950's for the annual Mason's Xmas Party. We went to the Bar-B-Barn for a pre-show dinner. I forgot how quick the meal was - you order the spare ribs and five minutes later the meal is on the table. The entertainment was pretty slick and we all had a great time. They did engage the services of a suprano for "White Rabbit" - one of my favourite songs.I presume the young lady was one of the band member's daughter.I remember Gracie Slick performed that song at Place Ville Marie circa 1967. The drive home to Toronto next morning was not particularly fun as it rained quite heavily.   Gord Gibbons

Hey Gord. Gracie Slick and the Airplane at Place Ville Marie. I remember that gig ! The Grateful Dead were on the same show. They were in town for Expo.

Gord   Remember that show..they played PVM then to Expo and Place des Nations.. we waited there and they ended up at the youth pavillion on La Ronde..so off we go again...nice crowd had gathered so we listened and tried as best we could to see them.they even had a small close circuit tv set up...   Lad

I forgot to mention that on our way to the show, we walked up Second Avenue from LaSalle as so many of our members seems to come from that street, including one of our original alumni (Bill Cooper). Everyone seemed to sit on their balcony with the door open - there must be no mosquitoes on Second Avenue.   Gord Gibbons

I can remember when we sat on the upper balcony in the summer at 840 2nd avenue talking and communicating with our neighbours sometimes with sign language to the distant galleries. I seem to recall a great consistency in our routines.

Hi   You could walk down the avenues look in the front and right out the back... sleep on the balcony if it was too hot.. and everyone knew who your were so the pipeline home was quick if you tried to pull something... no mosquitoes but how bout them shad flies.......man o man...   Good Times Lad

I like your description of looking through the triplex tunnels. Oh yes the shad flies. I can remember some nights when you looked up at the light standards and it appeared like an eclipse they were so dense. So you used sign language to avoid the extra meal.

Hi Lad,   If it was really hot we would sleep either on the front or back balconey, but we called them galleries back then.    We are headed to Montreal/Verdun this weekend and I will try to get a few pictures taken & have them posted.     Have a good weekend everybody!   Carole

Carole:   Karen and I went to Angels in Orangeville tonight for smoked meat. We should probably get together again for another lunch. Enjoy Montreal and take lots of pictures, 444 Egan Avenue would do fine.   Gord Gibbons

You're absolutely right Lad, "galleries" . Will be in Montreal-Verdun this week to refresh my memory.

When are you going to organize another lunch? Going to Montreal in the middle of September once this bout of chemo is over.   Margo

Hi,   Lunch is a good idea. I'm game for it, anywhere is good.    We had problems with the camera, Doug took pictures of us at Woodland restaurant and they somehow did not stay in the memory card.   Anyways, had a smoked meat sandwich with fries & bbq sauce, yummy.  We also went to the Bar B Barn which was also good. We went up to the cabins in the Laurentians where I used to spend my summers, it was a nice visit, it brought back so many memories, I hadn't been there since I was 16.   So, where ever we go for lunch is fine with me. Take care!   Carole

Margo / Carole:   Karen and I are okay for lunch. We will have to try and track down Willie and set up a date and venue. I went golfing this morning, which was a good thing as we are now in the midst of our daily deluge of rain.   Gord

Carole:   August 31 looks like a good date. I'll confirm back to you, Margo and Willie.   Gord

claroleca0 MSN said...

Gord, the 31 is the long weekend, not sure if we are going away or not, (totally forgot Labor Day is coming around the corner). How about the following weekend or is Margo going away then?    I haven't read any other responses.   Let me know what's what.   Carole
