Bridges over the Aqueduct

Since things are quite on the site, I thought I would re-post some photos I previously posted. Here is the Bishop Power Bridge in LaSalle, the most beautiful bridge over the aqueduct and maybe around Montreal.

Guy:   I presume that this photo was taken from the Champlain Blvd. side. I recall that at one time the bridge had a pipe along the other side that we used to climb along.   It certainly looks like there has been significant improvements in recent years. I might check it out this weekend when Karen and I are in town for the Generation Gap revival.   Gord Gibbons Brampton, Ontario

Gord, The new Charles-J. Des Baillets filtration plant on De la V챕rendry and Dollard ave was started in 1973 and completed in 1978. A 3600 mm pipe was installed from the plant to the river and this is probably the one you played on. Guy

Since things are quiet I thought I would reprint this photo showing a City of Verdun maintenance truck watering a flower box on the Galt ave. bridge. Notice the Verdun city version of the Canadarm. The driver does'nt have to get out of the cabin, pick up the hose, open the valve, water the flowers, close the valve, hook up the hose, open the door and enter the cabin, all is done by pushing buttons. I just read in the paper last week or so that Montreal just spent a lot of money to come up with a 'new' Montreal logo,..so I guess all the equipment may soon be sproting the new sign.???                                  HF&RV MONTREAL — In the fall of 2006, the Montreal Metropolitan Community decided it needed "a branding that will clearly and cohesively present the metropolitan region’s features on the international scene."

Two years and $487,000 later, here is what they have come up with: The Gazette was the first to get its hands on the new stylized 'M', which it described as a "patchwork of hot pink, tangerine, rhubarb, turquoise and green apple." If it were a jar of jelly-beans, it would have a certain appeal, but as a logo to sell Montreal to the world, it leaves a lot to be desired. Gazette readers were unimpressed. Some of the comments the newspaper received: "Do we want to be known as the city of clowns?"; "Total waste of money and garbage logo"; "I thought my neighbour's cat puked on my paper again this morning." There was one dissenting voice, Colin, who called it a "very friendly logo, youthful, conveying potential, and it's unpretentious, true to itself." http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/posted/archive/2008/10/29/montreal-s-half-million-dollar-logo.aspx                    $487,000 I'd like to get in on that stupidity, YIKES  hahahahahaha                                       HF&RV
