MAY MOVE PIC

I've been lurking here for a little while and this is my first post so be kind to me if I mess it up.

A little background:

I was born in Newfoundland in 1936. My family moved to Verdun  (299-4th. - near Wellington) in 1950. That location is now a parking lot. I attended  Willibroad from 1950 to 1954 when I went to work for Bell.  Got married for the first time in 1959 and moved to Riverside Park (43rd. Ave.) in Lasalle. Since then I've lived all over including a 2 year stint  in Saudi Arabia. Now living happily ever after with current wife  here in Ottawa for half a year  and Cape Coral in Florida for the other half.

If there's anyone on here that remembers me (or my siblings), let's chat.

I just tried to attach a picture of a May Move (remember those?) but not sure if it took.

Here's a picture I took in 2006 from roughly the same location as that 1930s(?) picture was taken.   Again it's an ATTACHMENT as I don't know how to include the picture directly into the message space. So scroll down for the picture.

You notice in the older photo, that there is an automobile pointing towards Wellington,..I wonder if the avenue was a two-street in those days,?                                                                                 have fun & Remember Verdun

Les,   If I remember correctly, seems to me that when I moved to 4th. Ave in 1950, it was  2-way. When I got my first car (a 52 Ford) in 1956, at least the numbered Avenues had been converted to 1-way.

les__f MSN said...

Thanks Matt , that's info I did not know,.I guess I just always thought the ave's.were always one way,........but they were (for the most part) quite wide...........so two way traffic does sort of make sense for a bygone time........HF&RV

Hi   A while ago walking down 4th to Wellington you used to see some of the places boarded up and some of them that people were in and should have been..Then there were the ones that had been done over and really looked nice..Condos..Quite a contrast in one block.. Man the avenues have not changed that much..   Nice Picture Matt..   Lad
