remember wellington st at nite was a drag strip, lots of nice cars smoking rubber down wellington st, crazy quebecers for sure girls with the mini skirts, drinking beer on the balconies above the stores watching the action, 24 molson for 6.50, pack of smokes 45 cents gas was cheap, today you need a weeks paycheque for a case of beer carton of smokes, tank of gas, then you might have some gringo left for a steamie and frie.

Popdog,
I remember getting three pieces of Double Bubble Gum for 1 cent. Each piece of Double Bubble Gum was wrapped and there was a little comic inside when you unwrapped the Double Bubble Gum. Those were the days-Fresco

Oh Oh , How'f the kids from the 70's ever get on with things, what with having to deal with a writer's strike........hahah That's beautiful,.a Gum wrappers comice writer strike, Did anyone ever hear of this,................hahahahahah The Bazooka Joe writer's strike Photo of Bazooka Joe joke writers striking outside of Bazooka Joe Corporate Offices in 1976. In 1975, the gag writers of gum wrappers across the country went on strike. Demanding greater creative control and more respect in the production process, these writers everywhere threw down their pens and took to the streets. It was a gumtastrophe.

No gum manufacturer was harder hit by this strike than the Bazooka Joe Company. With the strike flag hoisted, 9,000 Bazooka Joe writers left their desks for the picket lines, taking Bazooka Joe's trademark zingers, one-liners and irreverent quips with them.

Without writers, the CEO of Bazooka Joe, Tennessee Ned, was forced to write the comics himself. However, not being a particularly funny man, the comics lacked a certain something-- namely humor. Indeed, when asked in an interview what he thought was funny, Mr. Ned answered, "A goat kicking a baby." To make matters worse, Mr. Ned was going through a bitter divorce at the time, which--unfortunately-- influenced many of his comics.

It wasn't until November of 1977, when the strike finally ended, that the writers came back and shortly thereafter Bazooka Joe reclaimed his rightful place atop the comedy throne.
.....................................................................................................   this is hilarious ,.read some of the strikers placards.......        "Working Conditions are a Joke"    at least he didn't lose his sense of humour (Canadian spelling on the humour) Sorry .................hahahahahahaha                                HF&RV

for sure les & fresco i remember, at times i got a dime to take the bus to school when it rained, 3 cents for the gum, 7 cents for the bus, the bus drivers didn't trust us little verduners, those bus drivers can hear the coins drop perfect and eyes like a hawk. the trick we played as young kids, ask the bus driver for a transfer, then when you walking out the bus, you ask for another transfer ticket, you tell the bus driver you lost it, or forgot to ask for one?? your buddy is out there waiting for the transfer ticket , free bus ride for your buddy next day its your buddies turn. after awhile the bus drivers found out

metalman108 MSN said...

lets look at a real silver dime, 10 cents made with real silver, real money lets look at 1964, you have 3 dimes, 30 cents of real money gas was 30 cents a gallon, bread was 21 cents today gas 3.50 a gallon, loaf of bread don't know, but must be over a dollar? those 3 dimes in real money, is worth 4.29  if you kept those 3 dimes it worth more than 3.50 a gallon of gas today. silver is 19.71 a ounce and will hit 40dollars as ounce soon. back then we had real money, not that worthless paper they keep printing non stop.

Hey Walter )metalman) it looks like some predictions are coming about,.... Gold broke through G-note US, a couple of hours ago(briefly),.....Yikes !!  Get ready to pay more for everything ,...............HF&RV

hey- les

thank you for remembering what was predicted
on oil and gold.
i wrote that oil would go over the 100 dollar a barrel
i wrote that gold would hit the 1000 a ounce
oil hit over 110.00 a barrel
gold hit 1000.60 today
silver hit good 20.56 still cheap it will hit over the 30
dollar mark in the next few weeks?
only subject is the alberta oil sands, since i found out that
china is in great need of oil, there's no threat of oil demand.
those that follow the oil markets, know that iran openned there own stock exchange on oil, and guess what iran
does not want the american dollar for there oil, only
euro, gold, other paper money from other countries.
in time other allies of iran will join there oil stock exchange.
the american dollar is crashing , rite now you can shop in new york and they will take euro dollars.
so this makes alberta oil sands in great demand for the coming years.
there will be no shortage of skilled labour soon, when the rest of the canada slows down in construction, thousands
of skilled labour will move there.
just a though in 1998 oil went to 11 dollars a barrel
today it hit 110.00.
it costs aprox 40 dollars a barrel of oil, from the alberta sands.
it costs much cheaper in the middle east , the biggest cost
is the american forces and local forces, police to keep
guard on the terroists attack on the oil refineries.
we are in a massive change in the world today
gold, can hit 2600 a ounce, oil can hit over 170.00 a barrel
this is all i'm writing, for i'll get attacked if i continue

Well you've been on the mark now for over a year (maybe 2 actually) So,.I wouldn't worry about crticism ..... I read ,that the ultimate goal was to replace the USD ,with a new sort of NorthAmerican  dollar  ,...with the hope that most countries would use it,...... China will buy oil from anyone who will sell it to them,.. but they are very closely tied top Iran & Russia,.evrybody's playing footsie with each other,........it's all Do-Re-Mi ,...and they don't care where they make it..I guess.......   $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$    ...HF&RV   Check out housing & building starts in most of North America slowing down,... ........ But Alberta & BC are still doing well,.( but that can change in  a heartbeat)    I have noticed in different newspapers that I check each day,.more & more ads for 'Foreclosure Property" ..Checkout even te Edmonton Paper & your starting to see ,these type of ads,......the economy is still good ,to a point, but I think a lot of younger people will get caught up in the Payment Game,,,,,and then the Toys will be sold first ,then the properties,.......Debt kills ,if you let it. ...............................................  I guess your construction sites are hard to work in with the last snowfall,.weather can sure put a damper on construction at times,./    Good Luck

Something will have to be done to our monetary system to counteract the Chinese with their booming economy and 1-1/4 billion population and to a lesser degree for now with India with a population of close to 1 billion. The cheap labor from these countries is killing our manufacturing industry. No way can we compete with their cheap labor. Europe has already adopted the Euro and Canada, the US and Mexico will have to adapt a common monetary system and perhaps the rest of the continent in a more or less distant future.   Guy

I think we lost most of our manufacturing jobs 30 years ago,.For the past twenty we've been more or less a 'consumer' driven economy,.that's why we get flyers in our mail on a daily basis, showing us stuff ,we never knew we needed yet,.....hahaha.Seriously though Canada's main product for the last 15 or so years ,has been primarily technology based ( aside from the obvious Natural Resources, which Btw are predominantly owned by Foreign Investors) and one of the laws Our illustrious conservative Gov't at the time ,changed was the % that a foreign investor, could own in a Canadian company, but to make way for NAFTA, the lasw was changed to unlimited foreign ownership) which is Ok,.as some jobs stay here in Canada,ie: to get the resources out of or off of the ground,.but the difference is that the Huge Profits leave the country...........  but let's face it if another country can & do make a better product than we do,then why wouldn't you buy it,. I think you should buy whatever you think is the best product that 'suits your needs best' regardless of who made it.... that's why  most of our living rooms & rec rooms & offices are filled with stuff that used to be made here ,then Japan ,.then korea, then China ,then India,.....it's the nature of the beast, & Btw it's many of Our old companies who build the new plants in places like China, and other country's,...So I guess we are the authour of our own demise,.............but we will adapt ,like we always do................I think this might be an example of 'Getting Our New Cheese'...................... As for the Canadian / American & Mexican Currency,...that's what they were referring to as the 'Amero' ( only a suggested name) but that's the thought,,,,, Wars have been mostly fought on the Economic Front ,for many years now,..( and we used to win them,.but others have figured out the game too)      We will be in for interesting times ,but it is certainly in absolutely 'no ones' best interest to see North America faulter,.cause that's who is buying their ( Foreign Country's)  stuff:                                  Just a Thought...........................HF&RV

Ah I feel redeemed somewhat as on the same page ( that I missed in the previous post, but mentioned) China is in fact poised to become the worlds largest Gold Producer ( but Remember folks ,you can't eat gold, and barley & wheat & most food products have doubled recently in value).....and you can eat that.................just can't take it to the bank ===so to speak. here's an excerpt from the same site: According to Sherilee Bridge of Johannesburg’s Mail & Guardian Online, China is positioned to become the world’s largest gold producer for 2007 it's available under the same weblink I posted earlier: ...............................................................HF&RV
