I joined but now am being harrassed to send money to see all of the supposed "classmates" who want to be in touch.I was at my friends the other night and had access to this site....and saw a bunch of names which I don't recall from VHS? Is this a scam site?It has been around for a while.....thx everyone!

Have been a member for several years. The only cost is the yearly membership fee.            Ken

The names you see that are under VHS which you believe never went to VHS could be people who had friends at VHS perhaps from VCHS or not.  When I went to school it was grade 1-9 some of the girls went to D'Arcy Mcgee or St Gabriels or St Patrick's some moved and went to VCHS so trying to track down old friends I might register as a friend at all of those schools.  If you are a paid member you can send emails to non-paid members of course those see who signed your whatever it is album or what have you is a pain in the butt and I delete those messages. Then there are specials where you can join for special price.

I joined for a year a few years ago, and I did hook up with a few VHS buddies. I also posted Verdun Connections URL on their site, so it's possible some of our VC members found us by that post. . Although I no longer subscribe they continue to send me email to re join. No big deal. BTW Classmates isn't only school related, one can post whatever outfit you wish. Example would be the armed forces, clubs, sports etc.

Hi Cathy,   When you register for clasmates and fill out your profile, other people can view a part of your profile and are urged to sign up to see therest. Each time someone looks at your profile, their name is registered as a visitor. They may just vaguely recall you and thus the visit. In order to see who visited, then you also have to sign up. Thery have an ongoing special for 15 bucks for three months which allows you to view visitors, post messages on the bulletin boards etc. The trick is if people want to reply to you, they also have to sign up as well.   The system is programmed to catch phrases such as " at yahoo" etc to keep people from communicating for free via the bulletin boards.   You have nothing to lose for 15 bucks to resolve your curiosity but I would not sigh up longer than that.   rgds Keith Harrison

I joined a couple of years ago ans I think it is pretty well a rip off. My opinion is that they fish sites like this and add names. It was hard to get them to understand that I wanted to cancel my membership. They became a nuisance sending me emails to rejoin etc. It was a PITA experience for me.   Gary

Hello from Florida! I finally decided to join the Classmates.com and was not disappointed. I've reconnected with several of my OLDE classmates, (Gals and Guys) many of whom graduated in 1952, with me. We are all spread out across Canada and the U.S.A. I got their EMail addresses and we've been communicating for some time now. We've exchanged pictures, too. It's been great just knowing how they all are and how their lives worked out over the past 55 years. Our V.H.S. ranks are growing thinner, as many have passed away. So, it's been worth it to me. A few heard that I had passed away, cause I disappeared??? Nope, just moved  to California, then Florida. If more folks would put their profiles and pictures on the V.C. site, it would be more interesting and bridge some GAPS too. I really enjoy the info/pictures and opinions on the V.C. Site. Kudo's to theose who keep it buzzin'.  Victah

Hi Victah !....  interesting take on the grad's.com site,.... Feel free to ask some of your new/old found friends to checkpout this Verdun connections site,.we'd all appreciate hearing & maybe seeing some old photographs from their particular time in Verdun/Montreal....... I periodically chek out that site ,.& checkout the various schools to see if there are some new people added ,.but I have found it to be very slow in it's growth ,....& I would also tend to agree with the others who have experienced a less than anticipated result, and then to be solicited for more membership fees' In this day & age I think that you can find a lot of old friends & people we once knew through sites like this ,.or just generally 'Google-ing' names or schools etc etc ........ Good to hear from you Victah !......sez me.....hahahahaha                         have fun & rmemeber Verdun

Les, Victah's message referred to Classmates.com, Grads.com is a different site (there is a link here at VC). It is owned by Classmates but you can contact those registered on it. The membership list is not very big though. Maybe I missed a post?

Hi MaggieMck,..... yes I was thinking of the one linked through here,....I have used that one several times to check the newer lists from time to time ,from different schools around Quebec,.Haven't really found many people I knew from back there, but I do notice I come across a lot of familiar last names,I would guess it's the kids of some of the old friends I knew,..... Who knows???   life goes by quicker than we think.....  Hope all is well in Sask. these days ,.spring around the corner for everyone now.................                       HF&RV

Hi Cathyart, Personally, I enjoy the site and can put up with a lot of the SPAM by avoiding it!  To me, it's offered  the opportunity to meet up with past Classmates for a coffee, lunch or dinner in my travels across Canada.  To date, I've met approximately 30 "old" friends or acquaintances and this does not include the 40 or so at the VHS Class of '56 reunion held last Sept in Montreal.  I think of these get-togethers as my "Million Dollar" days and thank the Lord for the opportunities and if paying Classmates a yearly fee enables me to  continue........it's worth every penny!! I agree with you that the site sometimes overwhelms one with it's marketing, however,  a few key strokes solves this problem.   Hope this helps. Sonny Martin VHS class of '56.
