Hi

Just wondering what favorites we had?

Anybody go the Warehouse in 2020? Or how about The 3 Aces?
Some good times there...

What was the bar on Cavendish Avenue? The Cavendish? That place was pretty good. Other fun places were the Snowden Tavern, Toe Blake's Tavern, Brodies in Plattsburgh, The Esquire Show Bar, Pal's Cafe on Ste Catherine just east of St Lawrence Boulevard. There was that bar in the east end on Viau I think, that had the comedy acts. A comedian would be here a couple of weeks and if he was any good he would be sent on to The Edgewater Hotel. The Esquire and Brodies were my favorite places-Fresco

I remember the warehouse very well...and the brasseries close by...there was one huge bar (can't remember which but near the same area)...which actually had a bar tender who sold drugs there and everyone knew about it! I also used to like to go to PJ's Cabaret on Peel-sure it was a gay bar but my friends and I loved the drag shows and the cheap drinks...it was a blast...many impersonators...I saw Craig Russell there performing as Liza,Barbra and mae west....geez what a great place that was...and I never saw a fight there!

We can't forget the famous "Old-Munich". "Lots-O-Pitchers"!   Hey Les,               Regarding the Bar-Aquarium @ the Bali-Hi. I worked as a cashier @ Alexis Nihon Parking from 1982-1989. During that time, one of the (many) Vice-Presidents of Alexis Nihon Corp was able to retrieve the aquarium-bar (during salvaging) & had it placed in his basement-bar @ home (Hamstead I believe). For all I know, fish are still swimming in it somewhere in Montreal today!   Earl.

The Lancer spent many a night in there...good place,,,Yakity Yak and how about St.James Pub as well as Cock & Bull...   Getting hangover just thinking about these places..... I think it would be expensive now a days as compared to our time...any thoughts?   Cathy remember the swinging wooden doors at the Warehouse?   Lad

Hi Lad, I remember alot of bars mentioned, but some I can't place at all, like the Yakety yak, where was that in Lasalle? I know the Cock and Bull was on Ste.Catherine not far from Atwater, there was one on Demaisoneuve, under a over pass or something like that. When I was home last month I went to the Old Orchard Pub? in NDG. What a great  little place that was. There was this really large guy in a kilt playing the bag pipes. Loved it. Wendy

So far I don't see any mention of the Bluebird, missed being there on that fateful evening by one night.Still scares me, gives me chills when I think about it.Suppose that was 47 years ago. 37 deaths, now a plaque on Phillips Sq. I can picture the stairway, and the gas station across from Ben's where they purchased the gasoline, they threw it in the stairway, with a match. Exits locked, people jumped out of second story windows, on to asphalt parking lot. TERRIBLE !!!

Les_F said...

Hi Granpa we havew over the years mentioned the Bluebird Cafe Fire / Wagonwheel in several different posts,
here is a link to one of hem on this site:
https://verdunconnections.blogspot.ca/search?q=wagon+wheel

Thanks for cruising by, you can also use the search window on the opening page at the top, type in a word ie: Natatorium etc and it should find it for you. Cheers ! LesF
