Steve, The old map (message no. 5) you posted is not very clear. Where did you get it, perhaps I can make a clearer copy by going directly to your source. I am keen on very old maps wich this one seems to be, dating perhaps from the beginning of the colonisation. Guy

The map is drawn from the point of view that Verdun is at the bottom. If you move to the left through the rapids,and just past the small island near the right side, "Caughnawaga" is labelled. St. Paul's Island is also labelled with it's alternate name of "Nun's Island". The "map" is labelled as "A Sketch of Lachine Rapids and Channels to Montreal" Deck 1850. Signed by Thos. C Kiefer

Yes Gary that site does have a lot of information available,..it will take soemtime to go through the many links .I'm sure we will find a lot of new info & maybe some old photographs ,that we haven't seen yet. Thanks for the info : I will be sure to had that ,link,to my favourites, HF&RV
