taking an old hockey sock and tying a knot in the end and wearing it as a long toque

relieviers!!

going up and down all those stairs on halloween night

skating at brown park just after the "pop" flooded it.. that ice was perfect!!

hailing cabs and running the other way

sneaking in to the old Savoy theater on wellington street

St Thomas Moore Church Bazar's!! Roulette wheel..having a sandwich on the stage..fudge!!..

Torchy warf !!

jumping off sheds in the winter to the snow below and praying that old mister clouseau did not leave something in the back yard!!

playing street hockey... "CAR"

not having cell phones, blackberry, pagers, but always knowing where your friend were

extension cords that ran from the porch lights to the block heaters for your dad's car

sleeping on the upstairs gallery when it was really hot in the summer

everyone on Beaty between bannantyne and champlain was rich

everyone in Crawford Park was rich

HI   Playing in the old sheds... waking down and living on the Avenues when the doors were open you could see right thru to the back. Balconville  and everyone knowing everyones business..could not make a move without getting caught..haha extension cords hanging down from the 3rd floor to plug in the car, sneaking on the rink at night and having Pop call the cops to get us off.. Toss a football around at the Monument and have the cops take the ball..Then having to go and get it on LaSalle Blvd.. Softball games at Willibrord park and the guys hitting homers over the fence just waiting see if they broke a window.or two. Go to Mains bakery on Verdun and getting ready made pancakes.. Or Woolworth's for the best Apple pie around.. Seven cent Corona Cokes... 2 scoops of ice cream for a dime.. peanuts in the machine put you finger to get more salt... the people at store reserving a Star and you having to go and get it...   Lad

remember,in Verdun,if the party was a bit quiet on Rolland, you'd go to Manning, party there,go to Valiquette.party there...slide on the ice to a party on Woodland, eventually skid back on the icey road to Rolland and party there...all of the old buddies were close by....it's kinda sad that everyone moved away....BUT(now I sound ancient) WHAT great Memories of partying in Verdun in the 70's and early 80"s!

The steamies at the Forum must be close to $5.00 today, quite a difference with Bingos restaurant at the corner of Wellington and Egan, $3.15 for 1 hotdog, fries and coke. I was there last week.   Guy

You're probably right, Guy. Also add $8-$9 for a beer at the Bell Center. Ron

(Message 3) Ron, Are any of the players that you mention originate from Verdun.? Guy

the lad MSN said...

Guy   If you want to feed a group go to Rex's on 3rd & Wellington. 10 steamies and fries for around 10 dollars or less...not bad deal...   Lad

guy5479 MSN said...

Lad, I will try them out on my next trip to Verdun and I will report back. Thanks for the tip. Guy

Guy, I know Brian Elwell lived on Brown Blvd  and Ernie Chiasson and Brian Cleary was also from Verdun, I believe. Bob Berry from TMR, Jack Wilton (not Wilkie) from Ontario. Other players I recall were Charlie Poxon, Bob Eastman, Michel Huet.   Rgds Ron

Lad the trouble with getting 10 hot dogs and fries for $10 you might eat too many.   I love hotdogs and only eat them in Montreal in Calgary I pick up a pack of Schneiders or another brand and read the back all that Sodium and put them back so by the time I get to Montreal I am overdue.

Ron, Of the 8 names that you mentioned, only Bob Berry is listed as an NHL player in the following Hockey sites I consulted: NHL PLayers Born in Canada Hockey Hall of Fame List of NHL Players These sites mention that Bob was born in Montreal, was a player and coach and the Hockey Hall of Fame site mentions that he played for the Verdun Maple Leafs. This is the only connection with Verdun that I found. My list of hockey players consists of those that played professionally and either were born or lived in Verdun.   Guy
