Les - Re: boat racing, etc. I think you were talking of our (Harriett & me) father....Harry Grayburn. Stan Booth referred to him quite a bit during some of his messages. (He) Harry built many racing boats in Verdun over the years....usually in our garage....but one year we lived in Longueuil and he built it in the 'dining room'!!!  I think I was 9 years old back then.  The boat that you mentioned with a 'stinger' was called the "Angry Bee" - it was a little hydroplane and when it raced around the course, it sounded just like an Angry Bee. If my sister reads this message, she can probably contribute a heck of a lot more information than I can as she was more closely involved with the 'racing scene' than me. I will say though that Harry was very active and a great promoter and supporter of 'boat racing' in Verdun.  Harriett's hubby Ron Hewitt was also a hydroplane racer as well as their son Jim Hewitt so at one time, there were three of them out there - imagine that!!! judy in NB

Hi Les,
I just read Newfy Dog's post about our father and the boat racing. For a few years we had my father, my husband and my brother-in-law racing. Then as my son got older he bought his first runabout, then 2nd runabout, then his first 2.5 litre ,and then his second and last 2.5 litre. It hasn't stopped there though, he bought a flat bottom racing boat with a 350 c.i. motor then bought the ultimate drag racing boat with a 550hp engine in it. He still has th 2nd 2,5 litre and has rebuilt it from stem to stern and is now getting it ready for painting. If you want any info re the racing contact me at my email address in hotmail. We are a racing family, cars, boats anything that goes fast.(except for my husband whom has slowed down to sailing)

Sounds like a lot of Fun in your family,..........  I wonder which pictures I'm thinking of,.?  I search a lot of sites,.so maybe it was somewhere else......  When you say if it goes fast ,.you guys are into it,.would that include the SanAir & Napierville Race tracks too? I Remember ,Bob Aubertin was an announcer for Napierville,..and his family was into that too,...and also the brothers from the TV shop on Church Av in Verdun,.(later to a brand New store on Newman Bld in Lasalle)..... their name were Alan & Lorne Caesar ( if I remember that right) Caesar's TV ,...........Mullins another guy who raced at Napierville,......    Going Fast ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the only way to go,..Like a friend of mine out here ( an X quebecer too,of course)  ,...If it doesn't burn Gas ,.He doesn't want one............hahahahahaha                                             Thanks for the response,.  HF&RV

Hey Les,
I know all of the people you mentioned. I still love Drag Racing and watch it on TV every chance I get. Just saw the accident that John Force had the other day. He has more lives than a cat. Way TOO MANY accidents in the Funny Cars and dragsters lately. Nice talking to you

Hi Les - Hi Sis -   No, I never posted any photos of dad building his boats as I don't remember ever seeing any. As I said in my previous message.....maybe.....Stan Booth(can't remember his user name) had sent some in.  I remember that years and years ago, there was a photo of our mom and dad after one of the regattas in one of the Verdun papers(like the Messenger and did we have a Guardian?). Maybe someone would know where to look that information up in the Verdun archives.  Have a great day! judy in NB p.s.  Duck hunting started this morning at sunrise this morning in NB.  We are surrounded by marshes and it's almost like WW3 out there - keep your head down!!!
