Wellington Street in the 50s

Here is an excellant old photo dating probably from the 50s judging by the  parked autos. Of course what old Verdunite can forget the street car tracks wich where removed in the late 50s I believe.

Hi Guy...Great picture of Wellington St.Oh the memories shopping on Wellington St and no traffic jam Ha!.I think maybe it is around 1st or 3rd ave  and Wellington. The white building on the left looks like it was a furniture store, if so I think it was called Vims ??.We had pot holes way back then Ha! they are on the tracks.I guess there was a lot of ware and tare from the weight of the street cars. They have been talking  maybe bringing back some street cars in the city. The first building, on the right side with the partial sign, could be Marshall's 5 & 10. That would be between 3rd and 4th avenue.

Maggie, Marshall's was at the corner of Church. Guy

Yes there was a five&dime ,.or  f-10-15 cents store on Wellington along where Maggie mentioned,.but I don't know if it ,too was named Marshall's (I doubt two would be on the same street),.I seem to think it may have been a United 5-10-15 ?  but this is more of a guess than anything,Jimmy (Kingfu) may Remember the name,.or some of the members may recall,.I Remember being in the store (seeed less organised than Woolworth's or Marshall's,...everything in long wooden open bin/shelving (sory can't seem to describe better ) .........                                                     HF&RV

I think Marshall's was between 3rd & 4th ave on Wellington. Kressggs (spelling) was across the street from Woolworths right on the corner of Church & Wellington. If my memory is correct Deedee

Hi Deedee, I thught it may have been a Kresge's at one time,.but haven't found anything showing that (perhaps Lovell's ,that would do it),. but here's Marshall's corner of Wellington & Church   can see the old streetcar tracks,..                             Here's some more Wellington Street pics (courtesy of Steve Christophe's album more of Wellington   and some more...........................................................Wellington & Galt this one is inside the City & District Savings bank again Galt & Wellington of course)   .......................I had thought that it may have been called United Five Ten Fifteen,...........but I can't find info on that either......... maybe one of our Lovell's experts, could find the info on those stores and post them for us.....?  If so Thanks in advance................HF&RV
