Boardwalk 1954 - 2005

Fifty years separates these two photos, foot of Riverview Street. As you can see, they removed the metal pipes and kept the brick and cement pillars and did not even refill the holes with cement. During my recent visit, I noticed it is only a matter of time before they desintrigate as the cement is separating from the bricks and some are starting to fall as these columns require ongoing maintenance like any other structure.

The present residents of Verdun will one day be reminiscing about a different Verdun than we do. I wonder if they will be as passionate as some of us.   The "burrough of Verdun" has done a wonderful job of providing beautiful parks and promoting pride. For the most part, the residents of Verdun keep their properties very respectible. It's no wonder that the vacancy rate is small.
