Soccer this weekend

Well I guess there isn't to many people who played soccer in Verdun on this site. Or maybe this site is just to look at old pictures. Look I grew up in Verdun and I know if half the people show up this weekend for the kids it will be a success. So if you read this message and you are a true Verdunite we will see you Friday night and Saturday in Burling park and if you don't know were that is you probably lived on the avenues.

my guess is you will have a good crowd,..as most Verdunites (er's ) normally support many of these events,..However many of the members live no where near the target zone at this point in life,...but it doesn't mean we wouldn't support it or any kids from MOntreal or Verdun in particular,.......my bet would be that many People from the Point will also be ready to support this event,.....................................Hope Our Montreal members can attend,.....and I'm sure the 'kids' will have a ball,.sometimes they have fun inspite of what adults do................................Good Luck ,and Go Kids Go..................                           Have Fun & Remember Verdun

Hi Walter I don't recall a shack in Beurling PArk,.....but I bummed school a lot in those days too........hahahahah but i can't Remember where the shack was,.....I remember the running track,.the soccer field,....we had hockey rinks in the schoolyard ,......there were some seating sands along the Stephen's side of the Park,........where when we took off from school we had to rush over the fence ,.then down behind the green stands,.........and there we waited to 'take off' for te day,.....but we had to sneak down along the fence (remember it was a higher fence along there),.....but we had to sometimes climb the fence and jump into a neighbours yard,.so old man Hyland ,............couldn't see us from his office,.Remember he was the VP,in those days,.......... the other park (a small one ) on Brown Blvd just about inline with the school field /yard,...that's where we played British Bulldogs,.........hahaha   Hey Walter to Remember another friend of ours (DannyB's and mine ,schoolmate at one time ,.who came to VCHS with us too,..his name was Walter Czerwinski,..a good guy,.broke his arm jumping over those Bleacher (stands ) I was talking about,.............he came to Verdun roughly around the years you seem to know well,......too,....i don't know whatever hapenned to him,......(of course I was kicked out of VCHS) and had to go to Lasalle,...............hahahahahahaha     DannyB  knows Walter C,...too,                                  Good Memory Prompt for me there Walter ,I was rambling for a sec...........hahahahha       Have Fun & Remember Verdun

Walter ( Metalman) are you taking your T/A ,.for the Verdun trip ?                                                               )bring a Radar Detector)....hahahaha                                                                                                             HF&RV

les   if i was in my 20's i would, to hard of a ride. like the luxury drive i rent luxury cars for trips, cheaper than people know?? my cost is 44 dollars a day, unlimited miles, also you use your insurance for the rental car, plus if you have a visa gold card its additional insurance. RADAR DETECTOR- few years ago, i was on the 40 towards hudson i got nailed, top of the line detector? those QPP, have all the toys to catch you warning- don't use the detector in quebec, they will catch you fine was 600 dollars, then they took my detector and told me its not allowed in ontario either.

Metalman ,.Walter ,.those views of the VCHS park,.or Beaurling PArk I guess it is called,......are very close to where the Bust Stop was,.....there was a stop,..and a small store on the side street near the lane,..where I would get off the Bus & go in and buy a Vachon Strawberry Tar,..or Sugar PPie to eat on the way up to the school,..(I took the bus to Verdun from Lasalle for a while before being excommunicated from VCHS........hahahahah and there was an opening in the dence almost where your pictures are taken,...... I guess it was the 112 ? (or was it the 111 that stopped along Beurling,..... the 59 did,...but maybe one of the Bus Route Experts can remind me for sure.......................                                             HF&RV

I agree cheaper to rent a car for a trip,.....and never have to worry about it,... as for the Radar Detector,.....Yikes.....that would not be fun $600/bucks but being from out of town & not much chance of being back to soon,....I just mught not pay..........hahahahahaha  BC has no reciprocal deal with Quebec,............(but Quebec has one with Alberta,......so they will get you there,...

back then in verdun days, mostly everybody did there own work on the muscle cars wanassea insurance, would take anybody, cheap insurance, but it worked. drive down the avenue lanes, you would see all the verduner mechanics dumping oil in sewers etc. lots of tire burning with those 45 dollar tires from canadian tire, tornado tires? thrush muffler, woody wood decal ?? case of 24 beer on the back seat, empty beer bottles on the car floor as for speeding tickets, seat belts, was very rare to get a ticket back then. today its a different world, insurance is costly, get points taken off. one thing i like about quebec you still can hammer the gas pedal quebec cops are more easy on the ticket giving. the 401 is terrible, 2 tickets alreaddy this summer, ontario needs money the ontario police payroll is very high

Escaping across the yard,................................hahahahahah'' in later years up until just about 6 or 7 years ago ,a Friend f mine owned the Depanneur on Brown & Beurling,...and the Video Store on the corner was called Vicd Beurling or something like that ,.he owned the both stores as well as the whole building ,.......it's now Condos......on that corner,.... I think this is the store your referring to as Martins??  Also Rememr Oma's on the corner of Beaurling & Valiguette maybe ,....it was a little beer & convienence store too,.where you could get the Hockey News or other mags,.cigs,.or normal stuff..............

Yes I did manage to get a few 'billets' in those days,.................hahahah I used to store my BigBlock out near Hemingsford for the winter,..... I dorve around Ville Lasalle quite a bit as well as Verdun of course,......and was always on the lookout for the Cops,......crazy the stuff we did,.....Drive to Rouses Point and get all gooned up in the Saxony Lounge,.........or wired up at the Border Drive In ( Onatario Border),.and the other one near Champlain New York ,.was the 'NorthStar' or something like that,...... Quebec didn't yet have Drive-In Movie Theaters,..till they finally put one in in DDO (it had heaters & could tune your radio to hear the Movie,.... That was near the end of my time in Quebec,..as I headed West ,.right around when they opened that dump..............hahahahahah I had a ball at those Drive Ins...........hahahahahah a Saturday at Napierville,.then across the Border to the Bar ,.then off to the Movie's later,.............and head home late...........YIKES  we're lucky were alive.........................                             HF&RV

les   for some reason, i know only the ones that quit school the ones that made trouble, the ones that like to party the ones that would buy you a quart at a tavern the ones that had fast cars and harleys the ones that invited you to a pig roast on a country setting the ones that everyone thought they were stupid and losers today are the wealthest verduners i know. the ones that would give there last beer and cig to a verdun buddy the ones that watched out for others many different groups in verdun to belong too back then.

metalman108 MSN said...

les   oh yes oma's, lots of verduners went there, i went to martins curries, or any beer store close by

I Remeber most of them Walter,....and I agree ,.some of the least selfish people I ever met were characters from Verdun,..........but usually were good at staying afloat & surviving,..............  Came in Handy later in life having some street smarts or sense,.......................I loved it: hahahahahahah                                   HF&RV     usually they called a spade a spade,.........and you knew where you stood,................   and most of all there wasn't anything the real characters wouldn't say to you directly,...no two faced crap with them,............                     HF&RV

Metalman   Currie's bringing back memories..can you tell what was the name of the grocery on Wellington near 6th or was that Martin's. Remember the guy who used to deliver on the grocery bike. Small wheel in front and regular in rear. I tried that one day man was not easy to get used to with a 24 in basket. Guess it would have been worse with 24 in me.   Lad

les__f MSN said...

the lad:  Wellingon near 6th was actually a Richelieu (then Metro),......it was the second store in from the corner (1st store was a Laundromat)....   I think the Grocery guy you might be referring to ,would be Harvey,.a big character ,.who could be seen balancing quite a few 24's piled prevariously high on his bike,.while bellowing at motorists,.or just saying Hi ,to passerby's........Everyone it seems knew Harvey,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but I believe the Grocery store he worked at mostly was the one near the corner of 4th & Wellington..........    DannyB would know ,......maybe he's reading and will fill us in                                                                 HF&RV

hey-lad   les is rite for that beer store on wellington, later we moved to the westend of verdun, so i only got beer in that part of the hood. curries, remeber it for sure, fellows drank beer in the back martins was the main supplier for me and the other bar flies? till this day, i see those beer bikes going strong, delivering beer on the avenues, walking up those stairs all day, with the 24.

the lad MSN said...

Les   Yup you got it Harvey is right. Thanks for the memory jog. Also Metalman about those bikes they are workhorses. Just wondering if they were unique to Verdun. Boy can still hear the cases clanking over the bumps on the road.   Lad
